#Behavioural

Another one of the favourite species in #FSBI2025 is the #BrownTrout. We now hear from Nikola Kofentová who is looking at brown #trout and how their #behavioural traits could influence their success in using a fishway to pass a barrier. Fish that make slower decisions were more likely to pass the fishway, and those that have higher activity were also more likely to pass.

Hi #sciencemastadon, just migrated to social.edu.nl. A re-introduction: I'm a researcher working at Wageningen University and Research (#wur), studying the #ecology of #marinemammals (mostly #seals) in the Netherlands or #arctic, analysing #spatial distribution and #habitat selection based on #wildlife #tracking or #drone/ #uav/ #satellite data using #rstats

Also interested in human #behavioural ecology and alternative economic systems like #degrowth/ #postgrowth

📢 Study update! We are about 2/3 of the way through the #Behavioural #Immunity study! 🧠📊 Our high schoolers have been buzzing with activity. This journey has been all about uncovering how perceived #health #risks influence #social #interactions. The data is flowing, the insights are growing, and we are inching closer to understanding how social behaviour and health perceptions intertwine.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of the study so far. You are powering some truly fascinating science (despite occasionally forgetting to return your #proximity #sensors and taking them home for a little adventure 😅). Our sensors are great at collecting data—when they’re not crying out for a charge, that is. Check out the picture of our masterful charging #cable #management!

📢New Publication Alert!

🧬'Human #Evolutionary #Demography', ed. by Oskar Burger, Ronald Lee, and Rebecca Sear, is out today!

🔖This edited volume provides a much-needed, interdisciplinary introduction to the field and highlights cutting-edge research for interested readers and researchers in #demography, the #evolutionary #behavioural sciences, #biology, and related disciplines.

'Human Evolutionary Demography' is suitable for graduate courses in #demography, as well as upper-level undergraduates. Its range of research is sure to be of interest to academics working on demographic topics #naturalscientists working on #evolutionary processes, and disciplines which cross-cut natural and social science, such as evolutionary #psychology, human #behavioural #ecology, #culturalevolution, and #evolutionary #medicine.

'Great to see a review in the Graun today of a paper co-authored by @BarnardPhoebe who I keenly followed over on x, but who needs luring back here. "Human ‘#behavioural crisis’ at root of #climate breakdown" -- which proposes that climate breakdown is a symptom of ecological overshoot, which in turn is caused by the deliberate exploitation of human behaviour.

Joseph Merz and colleagues assert that most climate “solutions” proposed so far only tackle symptoms rather than the root cause of the crisis. This leads to increasing levels of the three “levers” of #overshoot: #consumption, #waste and #population.

Why aren't proactive, anticipatory and prospective behaviours more valued in the workplace?

Is it a #behavioural #economics thing, i.e. those behaviours don't get rewarded therefore they're not adopted.

Or is it a #power #control thing, exercising your autonomy is a threat to the power structures?

Or perhaps something else?
