#TLRTuesday has been all Black&White Mamiya today, here's a touch of color from the Rolleiflex with a lens made way before color photography was available.

Edit: as @sree pointed out color photography is older than 1935. I meant to say before it was available for this lens but that may not be true either, the first Kodachrome is a contemporary. What is true is that this lens was definitely not designed for color photography as a primary format. The more you know ๐ŸŒˆ

I really liked this little door/patio area with all the geometric shapes but with some organic greenery reflected in the glass. I couldn't figure out a good framing to highlight that juxtaposition; didn't want to lurk too long and freakout the residents.

Going back to a sunny day in San Francisco for #TLRTuesday. I was running low on frames and wanted to take a shot of both the red berries and the path, fairly happy with the outcome.

(It does look better before sRGB jpeg export -- richer but I don't want to oversaturate the colors, especially given how most screen are over saturated to begin with. I'll just mail you a print, that's the only solution.)

This cat was sunning on a very cold day in a narrow alley that probably gets no more than a couple hours of winter sun. I wish I could have joined in on the inside with a cup of coffee and a friendly cat while my fingers were practically frozen on the metal shutter release button.

I took this photo a couple years ago and I still can't quite figure out which way I was looking up or down when shooting this subway entrance roof. It's kind of fun to forget what I shot a while back and rediscovering the scene again (that's how I'm justifying my backlog okay!)

I had a nice discussion last week (?) with some film folks about how we're looking for a more positive spirit event like #FolderWeek to get us to shoot and share more work with vintage film cameras and we settled on TLRs (Twin Lens Reflex) cameras. So here's the inaugural #TLRTuesday post (hashtag is still under work-shopping)?

Also an homage to #TrainTuesday, I sadly don't have enough regular train access to keep going, but maybe someday.

Last year, I was trying to take this #FensterFreitag photo but could not find a good framing of just the windows until I realized that it was only interesting to me in context of all the white and blue in the entire frame. It was nice to just relax and notice other interesting things which is when I got lucky with the biker and the bird filling in the frame.

I was really struggling anyway to take a shot of Alcatraz from that far away with effectively a 35mm focal length. The island looked tiny in a big frame with nothing interesting around it. But as I was taking the steps down towards the bay, I caught this frame and I'm glad I decided to take the shot on a whim. While taking this shot is when I realized that I probably goofed the last one, but I didn't want to climb back up the hill to see if the red bus was still there.

I wish I could claim I intended to do a double exposure. In fact I suspected I had accidentally double exposed a few minutes later when taking the next shot once I had left the area. I'm glad this has turned into a happy accident with the Coit Tower in the background and Alcatraz above the grill.

The colors are very rich and bit wild with the Harman Phoenix color film reversal. Getting a hang of how I'd like to do the edit so the character still shows while controlling for the light source and scanning. I think that the "White B&W" light setting (5000K) with the same color balance on the camera might be the ticket for the most part. I'll be more meticulous with the next roll I shoot with the intent of color reversal, possibly this weekend.

A bunch of sunflowers are in green plastic buckets with some other colorful flowers in the blurry background. The focus isn't on a particular flower but the image is very vibrant and soft in the front, sharp in the middle, and falls off to softness in the background. It evokes more of a sense of a place and time than the actual flowers in the scene, a warm summer farmer's market scene.

Photo of a sculpture extending from the right side of the frame towards the middle. The sculpture is made of polished steel pipes for it's framework and flat bands of bronzed metal for it's core that looks like a ball of yarn, the pipes are arching away and supported by other pipes connecting back to the core.
