A couple of days ago - August 8 2025 - marks the 30-year anniversary of one of the greatest albums of all time, the first album by Ben Folds Five, appropriately named...Ben Folds Five.
The first BF5 song I ever heard was the utterly joyous Underground. I remember waiting in bed most mornings for it to come onto my little clock radio - tuned to Triple J, natch - before getting up and trying to face the last few months of Year 12 (yeah, I'm old).
This album is a genuine classic of 90s alternative, piano and fuzz bass and nerdy lyrics and over-the-top exuberance. And it's still completely brilliant.
