Researchers in the Bionanophotonic Systems Lab, led by Hatice Altug, have harnessed a #quantum phenomenon called inelastic electron tunneling to detect the presence of biomolecules, like proteins or amino acids, without the need for an external light source.

Their innovation overcomes a significant obstacle to the use of #optical #biosensors in #healthcare and environmental monitoring settings!

Fieldstone Bio's wild idea: microbes as living sensors. Drones deploy them, they change color revealing soil data or hidden landmines. Hyperspectral cameras & AI see it all. A new way to map our world.

I am looking for examples of open data sets related to the use of #biosensors ; it could be diagnostic, environmental monitoring, anything really. To be used in #teaching to get students to think, plot data, etc. One data set I am thinking of using is #Covid in French waste water but I need more. Thanks for suggestions and/or for sharing.

Researchers develop #molecular #biosensors that only #light up upon binding to their targets.
