I am watching you is a watercolor painting in portrait format painted by the artist Karen Kaspar. An owl is sitting on a branch. It has lowered its head and looks at the viewer with a penetrating gaze from its bright orange eyes. The plumage is painted with loose brushstrokes in shades of blue and brown. The background is white with splashes of colour in the same shades as the owl's feathers.

this piece is called “Godwit Glory”, and features a Marbled Godwit bird in a stylized setting. I made it because here in Humboldt County, we have a birdwatching festival called Godwit Days that celebrates the migratory presence of many local fowl. It is a big event, drawing lots of people.

Birdwatching is definitely a *thing* here along the Redwood Coast.

I submitted a poster version of this image to the Redwood Art Association’s photography and digital art show called North Coast Lens, and was granted an Honorable Mention by the judge.

I’m quite proud of this image. It was one of the first where I incorporated an image I’d made for another greeting card and manipulated into a new stylized “framing”. It was lauded for its graphic design.
