Whistlers in the Haze

On 9 October 2025, I encountered a large flock of Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis). The image captures just a small detachment of the flock, gliding smoothly across the lake’s surface like a quiet procession. The exposure is slightly high—I was still adjusting for the light—but the result carries its own charm. There’s a rustic, weathered quality to the scene, as if the moment had been etched into memory rather than captured by lens.

Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado for winning the Nobel Peace Prize - richly deserved.

Volunteer work day yesterday was different. We started disassembling the small tractor that was partially crushed by a falling tree when we first began work clearing out the wisteria (yes, I was on it, yes, is saved my life by taking the brunt of impact, so yes it was a bit odd to start that process). We got the front loader off, and need to take the substructure support for the backhoe off next. It was a good tractor.
