During a single cup of coffee in my backyard: great tit, bluetit, robin, blackbird, greenfinch, house sparrow, wren. Loving my overgrown, not golfcourse perfect, lawn and shrubs.

The local #Parakeet tribe is back. I had not seen them around here for a while

Rook.
It was a pleasure to see these birds up close by the visitors' centre. I think most people walked straight past them, but they're lovely birds.

Herring gull and coot chick.
When I was at #slimbridge a few weeks ago, I witnessed a herring gull swoop down onto a coot's nest and pluck out a chick. It then carried off the baby coot and stopped in front of a group of visitors, myself included and swallowed the chick. It was very sad to watch, but unfortunately chicks are frequently predated by a variety of animals.

I spotted a Common Myna bird on Midsummer Common when I was out on a run this afternoon. They're native to central and south Asia.

Feral pigeon.
Another one of the pigeons on my local patch from the other day. Hopefully the sun will be back again soon.
Feral pigeon.
My local patch is still quite quiet at the moment, but on the rare occasion the sun is out I quite like experimenting with photographing the local pigeons. There's a surprising variety in their plumage that can make a good photo.
I've taken action to #HelpOurHedgerows!
Crucial hedgerow protections in England have been lost, putting our wildlife at risk. Help us call on the Government to deliver on their commitment to reinstate them. https://action.rspb.org.uk/page/145053/action/1 đ #Petition #Birds #BirdsUK #Birdlife
Collared dove.
Photo was taken on a cold, damp misty morning that was pretty much the opposite of this one.

Ivan and Maria.
The ultimate power couple. I made this video to show the mirroring that mute swan couples do. In this case, the mirroring was done to reinforce their bond after chasing off some of the invaders. Ivan, in front, is also shuffling his wings, I think as a sign to the others that this is his pond.
This is my swan!
His name is Ivan and he's around ten years old. He's been on my local pond for about the last 5 years and he's the reason we don't have the 3 new mute swans, the black swan, greylag geese and quite a few other birds. It's his territory and that's the way he likes it.
It's just possible to see the blue plastic ring on his right leg. It's those rings and the work of quite a few volunteers that means I could tell the story of these swans.
This is (also) not my swan..
This is an (almost) four year old male, ringed two years ago in Sale. He visited Failsworth in December and met up with at least one of the others there. Unfortunately, he was being chased by the resident pair and the other visiting pair, but he seemed quite happy and healthy otherwise.
I know this because the ringer keeps some very good records and is happy to share the info when a report is made.

This is (still) not my swan..
Same swan as the previous post, just a slightly different angle. The facial knob (yes, it's really called that) is clearly visible in this photo and is quite pronounced, although not as large as our resident male swan. The beak is quite pale, which I think is a sign that they're still quite young.
