Ein jugendlicher Haubenzwergfischer, auch Malachiteisvogel (Corythornis cristatus) steht auf einem Knubbel in einer Baumwurzel vor einem Baumstamm.
Der Vogel wird 13 bis 14 Zentimeter lang. Der Scheitel ist ultramarinblau und schwarz gestreift. Seine namensgebende malachitgrüne Federhaube trägt er meist angelegt. Das Grünblau des Scheitels reicht bis zu den Augen. Der Rücken ist ultramarinblau, die Kehle weiß, die Seiten und der Bauch orange. Das unterschiedliche Blau der Federhaube und des Scheitels und des Rückens sind ein unverwechselbares Kennzeichen der Art. Der Schnabel der Jungvögel ist schwärzlich, der der ausgewachsenen Vögel rot.

Merganser that has just surfaced from a dive faces to left of frame, a stiff wind from behind has blown the long crest feathers into a punkish spike on top of the head. Sunlight from right of frame gives the normally black head a tinge of green.

A Meadow Pipit stands on sheep grazed grassland, the body faces to left of frame, but the head is turned to look right of camera. Beads of water coat some of the feathers, the dull day helps to show delicate hues that pattern the bird. One tail feather has been damaged and part of it hangs down.
