This book, Tananarive Due’s The Reformatory, is absolutely extraordinary. If you enjoyed To Kill A Mockingbird, Toni Morrison’s novels, Jordan Peele movies, or Black Horror, this is essential reading and it won’t disappoint. Highest recommendation!

fun fact: that scene (& the incredible musical number that followed, "he's the wiz" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN3toBeRUuM) was filmed at The New York State Pavilion from the 1964 New York World’s Fair, famous for its "flying saucer" design. it was also used in "men in black."
