Yeah, I lost my job a while back, which sucked, so I haven't managed to play anything at all... over the past month.

Not gonna lie, I definitely downloaded this #Metroidvania demo thinking it had a female protagonist, but turns out this guy, Shin, just has a really nice ponytail?

There's something in the story about this demon-hunter being an amnesiac and having made a pact with a spirit/demon, but the demo skips most of it?

Pretty fun, tho'

The scene takes place in a beat-up parking garage with huge windows in the background. Shin, the main character, stands atop a damaged car on the left side of the screen. A demonic, East Asian-style dragon (a.k.a. "ryū" or "loong") is peeking through a window on the right and bursts into flame as the player wins the boss battle.

Upon defeating the dragon completely, it transforms into a human shape that then turns to dust.

Shin, like most of his kind, is dressed in high-tech armor and a cloak. Most other characters in his order wear a mask and/or a hood, but Shin's face and long, silver hair—tied into a ponytail—are both visible. Protagonist and all.

The scene takes place in what looks like a wooden dome at the top of a tower. The sky is visible between wooden beams in the background.

Shin is standing the middle of the screen, and now equipped with a large, spectral sword which floats behind him. Among others of his kind, the spirit disguises itself as a regular "hover sword", which is apparently a thing in this world.

This second boss battle is against an enormous, red phoenix demon, which fights with fire and lightning magic as well as weaponizing the arms of a large, clock-like mechanism.

After defeating the phoenix proper, it explodes and turns into a flying woman in winged, red phoenix armor, who continues the battle with variations of the same fire and lightning magic.

This scene takes place among greenery and distinctly Japanese-looking multi-story buildings. The player has just been instructed to execute a peculiar but harmless-looking man accused for being a demon, and trying to talk some sense into your colleagues just results in a lecture about the law of their clearly religiously-motivated order. (Which, suspiciously enough, is run by a man named Lord Baal.)

Upon reentering the building where the accused man is handcuffed to a railing, the demo ends.

Early doors as it's still only January but would be surprised if I play 10 games this year which I enjoy more than #BladeChimera. Best original game in the search action genre since #AxiomVerge. Stunning visuals (animation specifically). Gets all the important genre staples right (fun exploration, set piece boss battles, satisfying power curve as you pick up abilities/items) and your swiss army knife/do-it-all sort gives it enough differentiation.
