David Bromberg, My Own House, 1978 on Fantasy

Bromberg’s 9th album as a solo artist, from 1978 – his first on Fantasy after three great Columbia records in the seventies. Bromberg is one of my favorite musicians I feel doesn’t get enough attention.

Fewer guest stars here than some of his other albums, but still excellent music from Bromberg, including a number of traditionals and blues covers (Blind Blake and Blind Boy Fuller). Produced by Bromberg himself, with George Kindler and Dick Fegy supporting on mandolin, fiddle, and banjo.

My copy, via Electric Fetus in Minneapolis MN, is a 1978 pressing in great shape.

Blind Boy Fuller - Truckin' My Blues Away (Yazoo, 1978, recorded 1936-1939)

The title song, referring to the dance step, likely influenced Robert Hunter. The R. Crumb comic certainly inspired the Dead's doo-dah man. deadessays.blogspot.com/2017/0

Also some great songs about "meat".

Going for Piedmont blues from the East Coast of the States, and another blind player who could really play –

Blind Boy Fuller, "I'm A Rattlesnakin' Daddy" (1935)

Watch out for the double entendres:
"I can rattle to the left, rattle to the right
My woman said, "I believe my rattlesnake daddy can rattle all night!" …"

Bit of blues for Tuesday lunchtime - Blind Boy Fuller with Step It Up and Go.

There's a distinctive boogie beat to this one

Blind Boy Fuller (1904-1941) was a master of raggy and piedmont blues guitar, best known today for his song "Truckin' My Blues Away", which gave us the phrase "Keep On Truckin'".

One of the most surprising things I uncovered while writing "A Meeting at The Crossroads: Robert Johnson and The Devil" was that Blind Boy Fuller had his own story about learning guitar via a diabolical deal at the crossroads.
