Dennis 'Joe' Lyons (26 August 1916 – 29 March 2011) was a British scientist who researched topics ranging from rockets to #roundabouts. He led the research of the #BlueStreak and #BlackKnight rockets that were developed at the #RoyalAircraftEstablishment during the 1950s. In 1965 he became the director of the #RoadResearchLaboratory, overseeing the introduction of the #breathalyser, motorway #crashBarriers and compulsory front #seatBelts.

The blueprints for Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake show the out-and-back layout that the roller coaster once boasted.

The coaster opened in 1938 and as of 2018 was one of the last operating roller coasters from designer Eddy Vettel.

Unfortunately, Blue Streak suffered damage from a fire on the park grounds in 2021 and will most likely never open again. (That's a story for another day....)

Blue Streak at @cedarpoint will celebrate its 60th anniversary next spring. It is the oldest roller coaster at the park, designed by Frank Hoover and John C. Allen. The coaster boasts a top drop of 72 feet and a top speed of 40MPH.
