Meine Herzensdame und ich, wir sind ja gerade in #Slowenien im #Urlaub. Waren zwar 13 h Zugfahrt, aber ich fand es tausendmal toller als Fliegen, weil es sich jetzt richtig nach Weit-Weg-Urlaub anfühlt.

Und weil wir alles mit den Öffis machen, haben wir recht schnell festgestellt, dass die #Pünktlichkeit und die #Zuverlässigkeit fast noch ein Ticken schlechter ist als bei uns in Deutschland. Dafür sind wir aber von #Bled nach #Bohinj (ca. 35 km) für 1,60 € pro Kopf gefahren.

Allerdings ist man als #Fußgänger*in hier genauso am Arsch wie als #Fahrradfahrer*in. Selbst hier in Bled gibt es gefühlt kaum #Gehwege und #Zebrastreifen sind Deko, die nur von Touries ernst genommen wird. Mit dem Fahrrad hier ist es so, dass viele Straßen markierte #Schutzstreifen haben, die allerdings vor allem in Kurven einfach mit Höchstgeschwindigkeit geschnitten werden. Der Busfahrer, der den Bus nach Bohinj gefahren hat, überholte die Radler generell mit minimalem Abstand und das scheint hier gang und gäbe zu sein. Selbst als #Darmstadt-erprobter Radfahrer hätte ich hier dauerhaft Todesangst. (Die Einheimischen fahren in den Ortschaften lieber auf den Gehwegen.)

Manchmal schaffen wir es dann doch in ein Eisenbahnmuseum. Wenn das von der nationalen Eisenbahngesellschaft betrieben wird und demgemäss verlässliche und halbwegs lange Öffnungszeiten hat (tgl. 10 bis 18 Uhr), dann geht sich das nach dem Waschen von Körper und Wäsche noch aus, vor allem, wenn die Etappe nicht lang war. Knapp wird es heute dann trotzdem, weil es zunächst noch gilt den gefühlt 30. Starkregenguss des Tages abzuwarten – mehr als ein Paar klatschnasser Schuhe können wir uns nicht leisten.

Von Villach geht es die ordentlich Wasser führende Gail entlang zur Bundesstrasse nach Arnoldstein. Dieser Grenzübergang ist mir noch aus der Zeit bekannt als er mehr war als ein paar verlassene Bars und Geschäfte, vor denen heute aus unerfindlichen Gründen alte Möbel verkauft werden. Hier war die Grenze zwischen Eierteigwaren und richtiger Pasta, zwischen “Parmesellokäse” und Parmesan am Stück und zwischen Filterkaffee und Espresso. Hier ist man vor dem EU-Beitritt Österreichs und vor Schengen stundenlang im Stau gestanden, im Gepäck Olivenöl, Baci, Parmesan und “ein wenig” mehr Barolo als beim Grenzübertritt eigentlich erlaubt. Fish are everywhere in Lake Bohinj - lean out of a boat or go for a swim and they'll nibble (harmlessly) at your fingers and toes, and you can see them clearly, especially in the shallows. Lean over the bridge and you see them feeding on the nutrient rich water as it leaves the lake.

Lake Bohinj is a place of constantly changing light and magical mists that rise from water and trees. You can go from saturated colour to monochrome in a few minutes.
This one turned silver and blue - a warm afternoon to a mystical, almost Arthurian scene. No ladies with swords though!

Haven't posted any Slovenian photos for a few weeks. Since it's now snowing and we all need some warmth I'm moving round to a summer view of Bohinj for these.
First the iconic view of the bridge and St John's church - lost count of the number of those shots I have. This was immediately after a spell of heavy rain when the lake was up to the seat.
