An odd day - alternately hot and cold, wet and dry and always windy. We ran a mixture of road and tracks, 36k in total and just got back before the heavens opened.

It's hard to believe that our lovely, wonderful (second) Joni died 6 months after this was taken (2013). She was such a great dog. She loved to run with me in the snow, just as this present Joni does.

Die Tage war ich unterwegs, hab ein paar Leute besucht und einiges organisiert.

Einerseits hab ich nun ein E-Auto, welches meinen Bus ersetzen wird und zweitens viel spannender:
Malu ein BorderCollie wird mich wohl die nächsten Jahre begleiten. :o)
Die letzten Sommer auf der Alp hab ich mir immer einen Hund gewünscht, da ein Hütehund eine enorme Arbeitserleichterung mit den Kühen ist. Und ja, so mag ich Hunde natürlich auch.

Malu war vorrübergehend bei einem Schäfer untergebracht. Da er zwar sehr Spaß bei der Hütearbeit hat, aber nicht ganz so genau arbeiten kann und auch mit 9 Jahren nicht mehr so fit für tausende Höhenmetern und ~1500 Schafen in den Schweizer Bergen ist, wollte der Schäfer ein neues Zuhause für den Hund.
Die Hütearbeit mit Hund ist auch neu für mich, da brauch ich keinen Hund, der auf 1000m Entfernung, auf Pfeifsignal, auf den Meter halt macht. Kühe rennen auch nicht gleich so, wenn wir als Team einen Fehler machen sollten. Da ist es für mich viel wichtiger, dass er alltagstauglich ist und auch Bock hat was neues zu lernen.
Die Zugfahrt von Köln hat er super entspannt mitgemacht. Auch überfüllte Bahnhöfe sind kein Problem. Ich glaub der Test ist bestanden... :o)

Wie so viele Hunde lässt er sich nur unauffällig Fotografieren. Aber zwei Schnappschüsse sind mir gelungen. :o)

An obstacle course has been set up for dogs. The surface is green astroturf. To the right, we see that a black and white dog has successfully crossed a seesaw. Its back legs are still on the plank, its front legs are spread and on the astroturf. It looks very pleased with itself and is excitedly looking at its human for its next command.

Afternoon run

Glorious day, so we decided to (mainly) run up #Ruberslaw. After a hard frost the ground thawed and it was muddy. So the inevitable and I went arse over tit on the way down. Nothing hurt other than pride and troos. My own fault, not fast enough. I had driven to the start with bags of plastic and bottles collected over the last ten days, so I had spare plastic bags for the seats. Virtue has more than just its own rewards. 😇 9k, all tracks.

Morning walk with the dugs

The flock were gathering by the standing stone and wondering where the Pastor had got to. Unbeknown to them he was 100m up the hill, having a whale of a time with his mates. The hard surface made the bounces gorgeously erratic and the only service he was interested in was the one involving a ball and a thrower.

A wet black and white dog is standing in soft grey and blue water, so still that the ripples in the water have been caused by the dog. She's standing facing right, but her cocked head is facing us, with her left ear up and her right ear flopping down. Her tail is upright, but the wet is making it look rather bedraggled.

50-40, but I think we can forgive the errors now we have won. Sloppy in parts though. The dug thinks he needs a celebratory swim so that will be us off down to the river. I might even get in myself.
