There's no way I can pack everything I need in 2 checked bags and one carryon to Bouchercon in a few weeks.

I see no other solution. I'm going to have to move to Nashville, y'all. 😆

I'm on a deadline to finish book 4 in the Ginny Reese Mystery Series, A Nose for Death. Naturally, I'm prepping bookmarks for Bouchercon instead.

Will it keep people from tossing them? Probably not, but I find the act of choosing the beads, threading the ribbons, etc very soothing.

Anyone else out there going to Bouchercon at the end of August?

#WritersCoffeeClub May 15: Have you ever attended a writer's fair / festival to promote your work? Would you?

I attended #Bouchercon, the World #Mystery Convention, in 2008 to promote a crime-themed #Poetry magazine I co-edited. The con went well and I got to be on a panel about crime and poetry specifically:

I've attended Bouchercon as a fan three times since then. Still fun, but unlike having a book to promote.

Here's a nice round-up of the 2023 (crime fiction conference) Bouchercon from J. Kingston Pierce at The Rap Sheet:

The twitter account for #Bouchercon just posted:
"Attention Bouchercon 2023 Attendees: A small number of attendees have self reported positive tests for #COVID. If you are concerned about your exposure, please take the Covid test and any reasonable precautions to stop further spread."

I don't know what "a small number" means, but if you attended Bouchercon, please test ASAP--antivirals must be administered in the first few days after a positive/infection.

Graphic with the Bouchercon 2023 logo (a sailboat on waves with "Bouchercon San Diego on the top right, the number 23 on the sail, a corked bottle floating closer than the boat, and "Murder at the Marina, Read the Crime Wave" in white font)

Below this, drawings of the components of a popular self-administered COVID test.

Text to the right, in white font:

"COVID notice: a small number of attendees have self reported positive tests for COVID. If you are concerned about your exposure, please take the COVID test and any reasonable precautions to stop further spread"

PSA: #Bouchercon, COVID

Confirmed COVID cases keep going up, too many people still going, "surely not COVID, just the same symptoms"--please get tested asap so you can get antivirals/Paxlovid if at all possible!

Tweety by Lee Goldberg (timestam 9:05pm Sep 5, 2023):

So far I've counted 7 Bouchercon 2023 attendees reporting on twitter that they came back with COVID. I wonder how big the actual number of infected attendees is...

Reply by Kevin R Tipple:
I have counted 15 with positive test results and another dozen who have symptoms and are sure it's not COVID

Lee Goldberg:
That's firghtening.

PSA: #Bouchercon, #COVID

ETA: "mild allergies" my foot; it's the long-term, unseen and unfelt damage COVID does to your organs that should worry you.

Tweet by Holly West (timestamp 4:29pm Sep 4, 2023):

Bouchercon attendees--I just tested positive for COVID. If you spent time with me in the last few days, please test. Fingers crossed everyone is healthy.Tweet by Amina Akhtar (timestamp 7:38pm Sep 2023):

An update on this: Holly is not the only one who tested positive. I just tested the minute I got home and looks like I have the Bouchercon COVID. It feels like mild allergies? But sincere apologies to anyone I interacted with, please get tested.

I'm at the 2023 in San Diego. Read more about Bouchercon here:

The short version is it's the largest crime fiction conference in the US.

I attended a panel that included whose novel ALL THE SINNERS BLEED I posted about earlier.

Herewith a picture of the man himself.

“It’s the character, stupid!”

So says crime fiction novelist Reed Farrel Coleman in an interview about his latest novel SLEEPLESS CITY, which introduces a new series character Nick Ryan:

I’m missing #Bouchercon next week, but I don’t feel like taking chances. That and airlines are crashing, so to speak.

Ok, just cancelled my arrangements for #Bouchercon. Now I need to figure out what to do instead.

I’m backing out of Bouchercon. COVID and it’s variants and people’s desire not to wear masks tells me I shouldn’t gamble.

@bouchercon #bouchercon #writing

I’ll make a decision this week on whether or not to attend #bouchercon this year. Probabilities are dropping fast.

@bouchercon

I’m on the dystopian panel…

I’m really torn about going to @bouchercon this year. It may come down to a literal coin-flip. Anyone I know still going?
