Brachiosaurus (Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary, Pop! Movies by Funko)
0 (0 votes)Here’s a figure I didn’t anticipate adding to the collection, the Entertainment Earth Exclusive, Limited Edition, Funko Pop! Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Brachiosaurus Vinyl Figure! Whew, that was a mouthful. My Jurassic franchise Pop! collection consists of a whopping two figures, the Stygimoloch and Dilophosaurus, which both have reviews here and are the only Funko Pop! figures on the blog. As I said in those reviews, I don’t typically like the Funko Pop! style when it is applied to dinosaurs. Those in my collection are the rare exceptions. And although I liked the Brachiosaurus when I saw pictures of it across the web, I didn’t like it enough to visit Entertainment Earth’s website and buy it for retail price. I came across this one rather unexpectedly, while Christmas shopping at my local Marshall’s, a discount department store. Since it only cost $10, and was right there in front of me, I brought it home.
The Funko Pop! Brachiosaurus stands 6” (15.25 cm) tall and measures 6” long, making it a large figure by Funko Pop! standards. With proportions as wonky as they are here, there’s no point in calculating the scale of this thing. No one that’s buying these cares about the scale of it anyway.
The head is absurdly large, in keeping with Funko Pop! tradition. The head is nearly as large as that of the Mattel Brachiosaurus! The head is also the focal point for finer details, which include wrinkling and scales that look more like cracked skin. The sauropod is clutching leaves within its mouth, and you can see some peg-like teeth within the slightly open portion. The rest of the body is detailed with wrinkles and skin folds. The proportions are cartoony and include shortened limbs and a shortened, curled tail. The figure is painted gray with a tan jaw. The underside of the neck, torso, and tail are also tan, and the toenails are tan too. The eyes are big, black, and vacant. Again, in keeping with the companies’ aesthetic.
There’s nothing to really complain about here, aside from the visible seams around the head, limbs, and tail. Funko Pop! figures are the sort of collectables you either like or don’t like. Judging by the star ratings on the other Pop! reviews, most of our readership probably won’t be enthusiastic about this one. For me, this is one of the few Pop! dinosaurs that I find cute and endearing, and I thought it would be fun to feature it on the blog. The Funko Pop! Brachiosaurus can be found widely online through the secondary market but for more than what I paid. If you live near a Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, or Home Goods, it might be worth popping in to see if they have one too.
This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Brachiosaurus
In 1900, Paleontologist Elmer S Riggs, found a partial postcranial skeleton near Fruita Colorado.
In 1901, Riggs published a short report on the new find, noting the unusual length of the humerus (front leg) compared to the femur (back leg), resulting in a Giraffe like posture.
In 1903, Riggs formally named the species Brachiosaurus altihorax. This fossil was regarded as the largest known dinosaur at the time.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...
And into 2011 with my model of Giraffatitan, which stands 82cm tall and is about 115cm long. I sculpted it in three pieces and the SuperSculpy had to be baked in my oven before assembly. It stands by my coffee machine, just outside my studio, and he's watching me type this!

#Dinosaurs in #Doctor #Who, who would have guessed...
Lets take a look at what they show, and break down what we can see.
They say they are 150m years in the past, in #Wyoming
In this image we can clearly see a #Brachiosaurus.
As far as I know, its been found in #Colorado which is close enough for it to migrate there.
It also looks fairly accurate for a #Giraffatitan adjacent species.
In the background, although harder to see are probably #Apatosaurs, or #Diplodocus.
Over all 10/10
