#Brickworks

Local #history beneath your feet. #Brickworks expanded rapidly across #Scotland from the early 19th century onward, in order to meet the demands of the industrial revolution. Many of the manufacturers' clay #bricks at the time were uniquely stamped and each one therefore comes with its own story. These examples were photographed recently in an old walkway within a #Glasgow suburb and they are probably about 100 years old.

The Don River hasn't really changed in the last 93 since this photo was taken on Dec 30th, 1931, but we've controlled the banks, and mud. The Bayview Extension runs across the top of the photo, and Pottery Road runs across the river to our right. wholemap.com/Dec30

Throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, Glasgow and its surrounding communities were home to a large and diverse range of brickworks, each of which stamped their own mark on their products. This sample from a small area of the foreshore below Dumbarton Castle gives you a fair idea of this diversity.

A collage showing nine bricks of different styles and colours made by different manufacturers based in and around Glasgow. Each also bears a manufacturer's stamp to allow the brickwork which made it to be identified. These often consist of place names like Airdrie, Auchenlea and Cadder.

Did you know there’s a huge nature park right beside the DVP? And the TTC goes there? Check out Brickworks Park, it’s gorgeous.

Finished, and it looks great! I'll have to look into buying all the pieces and building it for real.

I'm not much of a #birder -- I catch #photos of them sometimes when out on #UrbanNature walks, but I don't research anything about them or go specifically looking for anything. But it still feels special to see two different night herons in two different locations (#Brickworks yesterday and #RiverdaleFarm today), on two days in a row.

A black capped night heron (a large bird with dark blue upper and white lower feathers, long legs, and bright red eyes) standing on the edge of a duckweed-covered pond, a fish held tightly in its beak after a successful lunge into the water.A night heron (a large bird with dark blue upper and white lower feathers, long legs, red eyes, and a long black beak) perches on a tree branch and stares sleepily at the weirdo taking its picture.

So many monumental, public, and industrial buildings of Ljubljana are built of bricks from Tönnies' brickworks of Koseze. Today only a pond - Koseški bajer remains of them. We flew our kites over this suburban oasis, and discover its rich history.

Up The #Brickworks again today (lovely climb) so a standard shot from the top. A rapid descent before a right turn to climb #Windgather, which seemed longer and steeper than when I last went up 2 years ago. Another super fast drop down #TheStreet before heading to #WhaleyBridge for coffee, then home via #Strines and #Compstall. 75km with 1150m of up, up, up. A great ride with Dougie, Angie, Ash and Paul. #BikeTooter #BikeToot #Cycling #DukinfieldCC
