Manchester Monday 3 1st December 2025.

One of the most bizarre display teams I've ever seen
F-GDPX, Max Holste MH.1521C-1 Broussard and Colomban MC-15 Cri-Cri in the colours of their sponsor, Brittany Ferries.
What was so bizarre about these?
The, erm, "formation" take off.
See that metal frame sticking out in front of the wing of the bigger plane, just in front of the cockpit windows?
That was to support the nose wheel of the smaller plane on take off.
The Cri-Cri was mounted on top of the much larger Broussard, only separating from the mother ship part way through the display.
An interesting note - the Cri-Cri is (or at least, was) the worlds smallest twin-engined plane, powered by chain-saw engines!

A pair of aircraft flying from left to right at a low altitude, one flying more or less straight and level, the other pitching up, both trailing smoke to make them easier to see.
The lower plane is the larger, a high-winged, single propellor-engined plane, with a tail wheel and twin tails on the ends of the horizontal stabilisers.
The plane is mostly white, with a thick red stripe at the bottom of the fuselage, red stripes at the top and bottom of the twin tails, and on the wing tips.
There are dark blue "Brittany Ferries" titles on the side of the rear fuselage, and the black registration "F-GDPX" on the outer face of the tails.
Smoke trails out of the engine exhaust, at the bottom of the forward fuselage.
The upper plane is all white, with a red stripe along the bottom of the fuselage, a red and white waving flag on the tail, red wingtips, and very small red engines on stub wings at the tip of the nose.
Dark blue Brittany Ferries" titles can be seen on the side of the fuselage, partially obscured by the wing, as well as on the undersides of the wings., with the black registration "F-PZTU" on the side of the rear fuselage.
Smoke trails from a canister under each wing.
Flat grey sky fills the rest of the image.

En route to #Rosslare with #BrittanyFerries today from #Cherbourg, and the pursar was kind enough to invite us and a few others up to the bridge of the #MVGalicia. All in the aid of customer service and leaving a good impression 😉😉. Added bonus, a pod of dolphins came to play on the bow wave 🐬🐬, and gave us a brief show.
Had a really interesting exchange about the economics of ferry companies in Europe and the associated working conditions of ferry workers, especially the contrast between French employed ferry workers and those of other companies.

Picture of the control bridge of a large passenger ferry. A number of screens are visible, showing different information, such as direction of travel, wind speed, direction and weather, neighbouring vessels. Two crew members are entrusted with keeping watch and navigation, one standing near the control seat and the other further forward, scouting the surroundings.

"Dear Geraldine,

Imagine setting off on your summer holiday – and beneath your feet, lambs are crying out in fear, unable to rest, breathing in the stench of urine and faeces. This is the hidden tragedy of live exports. While families set sail for a relaxing holiday, below deck, these animals are enduring one of the cruellest journeys imaginable."

Date finally set for start of Cherbourg-Bayonne rolling highway dlvr.it/TKkZVZ

I had the privilege of meeting the Captain, his Watch Officer and Able Seaman on the Bridge. They were clearly - and rightly - proud of their vessel and the quality of their fellow crew members. #Salamanca #BrittanyFerries #Shipshape

For #SchiffsSamstag here's a view from Portsmouth harbour entrance, after sunset in August 2009 with a ferry departing and on her way to France or Spain. This photo was taken from the Still & West pub, one of a few in this fabulously picturesque and historically interesting area of our home city. Across the harbour you can see Gosport.

The sun has set and we're sitting by a stretch of water; a harbour entrance with land opposite us in silhouette against the deep oranges of the dusk sky. Grey-black streamers of clouds stretch lazily across the scene and the sky fades to a dark, pale blue near the top. In the foreground there are the silhouettes of people sitting and looking out across the water. We're at the outside seating of a pub enjoying the quiet, the fading warmth of the day, a drink, some good company, and being enchanted by vessels coming in and out of the harbour entrance. There's a yacht to the left with its tall triangular sail, black and in sharp contrast to the golden glow behind. A large passenger and car ferry is emerging from the right of view near to us, almost filling the height of the image with its mainly silhouetted shape of sharp prow and multiple decks. Lights on in rooms and along decking allow us to make out more of the ship than we otherwise would in the twilight.
