Lazuli Bunting nest. One of it's eggs and two brown-headed cowbird eggs. I've heard the bird chirping when I've checked the bait hive for a week and ID'd it with the bird app the other day and saw it looked a bit different than a house finch.

Bought paper rainbow 🌈 bunting to cheer myself up. Thought oh that's cheap. When you get it out the packet the rainbow colours are only on *one* side of the paper. Think I need another packet for the other side for double rainbows 🌈🌈. No pots of gold 💰found yet either, scunner.

A marvellous male Reed #Bunting, photographed on Sunday at Upton Warren nature reserve. I can hardly believe it myself now, but many years ago these handsome birds (along with the less striking but still beautiful females of the species) used to visit the small-town garden of the Jackson family home during the Winter months.

J'aime bien cette photo.

D'abord parce qu'elle est incongrue : j'étais dans un observatoire sur un étang en Sologne et je ne m'attendais pas à voir ce bruant jaune plus typique des milieux ouverts et champêtres.

Ensuite et surtout parce que le bruant jaune est une espèce en déclin depuis pas mal d'années. En raison de la destruction de son habitat (à cause de l'agriculture intensive, de l'artificialisation des sols, etc.) sa population est en baisse et il devient de plus en plus rare (la niche écologique qu'il laisse à tendance à être occupée par le bruant zizi).

C'est toujours bien de le voir ou d'entendre son chant bien marqué (qui aurait inspiré Beethoven pour l'ouverture de sa 5e symphonie)
