Went into the wood to try out my new UCO Flatpack grill (medium size).
Bought it specially for winter time, as it should provide (and does) more heat compared to small gassifier stoves...
I guess I still need more experience to select proper firewood, but still did not gave up, and got what I wanted (coffee and steak, of course).
I am thinking about #bushcrafting as #biohacking....how watching the sunrise every day could reset a person's circadian pathways. Maybe watching sunsets would too, but the effects -- healing, grounding, centering, might be different. Bushcrafting folks tend to rise with the sun, but what happens when it gets dark? So I've made a Tiny Titanium Tripod Table that kinda works.
That was rather good meal during mid-hike this Sunday.
It's so refreshing to have a lunch and then just lay in a hammock for some time with a survival handbook for a read.

What "Action cams" are hikers/bushcrafters using to record experiences for the memories? Is it "GoPro" by default or are there cheaper not-over hyped alternatives?
Currently I use #FOSS #UBPorts #UbuntuTouch -based phone (#VollaPhoneX), and camera app there is pretty bad - no HDRI, no stabilization...
If camera needs some Windows software to edit custom formats that's no-go for me, as I'm exclusively #Linux user...

These foldable bowls are.. "fake news", as they do not hold their form and leaks water if left on it's own on the ground.
You can hang it on a tree branch using cordage (as in my video) or on a hanger between two Y sticks instead.
Still gonna keep using it though as it weights only ~40g and it can store quite some water in it (taken from local stream or lake). Also, extra "crafting" is just additional fun 😋 .

There are reusable hand warmers that you can "recharge" while on a trip, for example on a gassifier stove or any other heat source.
Lifesystems hand warmer just fits in my 700ml titanium cup.
It's no longer winter here, no need for emergency warmers now, I just wanted to try recharging on my compact, minimalistic fire setup.

You can get these wire saws for ~-5 Euros, but instead of stretching it between two hands with your fingers, you can make this make-shift handle from hazel (or whatever) stick. In this way, wire is used without bending much, so it should live longer, and you have one hand free to hold the stick being sawed down.
Thought it felt that it got blunt rather fast. That or I just was tired already during mid-hike 😅 .

Made a lean-to shelter using poncho, paracord, and three trees. Used quick-release knots with sticks as toggles.
There's no need to thread the whole 30m paracord through poncho rings - just the paracord loops ("kinks"?) fixed with toggles.
Might make instruction video some time later...
Had lot's of problems to make fire going, did not had time for making more videos (ugh, short winter days...)

I'm using Montane Terra pants for my all hiking / bushcraft-wannabe activities in spring/autumn. What I like is:
* Lightweight
* Hydrophobic
* Blocks wind
* Air vents
* Inner pocket for car keys
Dis:
* Only two pockets.
* Too thin for winter...
For winter, there's Montane Terra XT. It's thicker (but heavier of course), has more pockets, but.. it's ~145 EUR..
Are there comparable cheaper alternatives with similar features..?

Real wool should be pretty flexible, warm and fast-drying (if "accident" happen), and real leather palms should protect from wet sticks & other stuff while working in camp, and less afraid of heat compared to synthetic covers?
Or are there better options?
