Le col d’Aubisque était hélas fermé m’obligeant à faire demi-tour, mais l’ascension valait le coup. Eaux-Bonnes en ville abandonnées. Remplacée par la station de Gourette. Exploring the Kampina nature reserve near Oisterwijk, I was privileged to photograph three remarkable bird species, each showcasing the rich biodiversity of Noord-Brabant.
Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)
The first two images capture the Common Buzzard in mid-flight. This raptor, widespread across Europe, is known for its broad wings and rounded tail. Often seen soaring or perched prominently, buzzards are versatile hunters, feeding on small mammals, birds, and carrion. Their distinctive "pee-yow" call is a familiar sound in the countryside.
European Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola)
The third image features the European Stonechat, a small passerine bird with striking sexual dimorphism. Males display a black head, white neck patch, and orange-red breast, while females are more subdued in coloration. Stonechats inhabit open scrublands and grasslands, often perching conspicuously as they hunt insects.
Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia)
The final image showcases the Eurasian Spoonbill gliding against a clear blue sky, with a solitary white cloud as its backdrop. This elegant wader is distinguished by its long, spoon-shaped bill, which it uses to forage in shallow waters. Spoonbills are social birds, often found in groups, and their presence indicates healthy wetland ecosystems.

I spotted the buzzard when I was just outside a car park. There was a tree in front of it and I could use its camouflage to get closer. Then there was a deep ditch into which I lowered myself to crawl up and take a few pictures.
ℹ️ The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) grows to a height of 58 cm and has a wingspan of up to 128 cm. Its diet includes mice, rabbits and amphibians. Its plumage can vary in colour from pale white to dark brown.

🐦 Mäsuebussard mit Beute 🇩🇪
Ich hab den Mäusebussard gesichtet als ich gerade kurz vor einer Parkbucht war. Davor war ein Baum in dessen Tarnung ich mich annähern konnte. Darauf gab es einen tiefen Straßengraben in den ich mich fallen ließ um mich anschließend hoch zu robben und unbemerkt ein paar Fotos machen zu können. Die Kamera lag als Beifahrer bereits auf meinen Schoß.
ℹ️ Der Mäsuebussard (Buteo buteo) wird bis zu 58 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 128 cm. Er ernährt sich u.a. von Mäusen, Kaninchen und Amphibien. Das Federkleid kann verschiedene Farben haben von eher weiß bist dunkles braun.

@mjohanning It could very well be. I don't know where the photo is taken, but I can say that here in Sweden, we have Common buzzards - Buteo buteo - that can be very pale, or have huge white spots or areas. We have even given them a name of their own "Börringevråk".
Börringe is a village in the south of Sweden, and "vråk" is the part of "ormvråk" that we kept in the name of it.
(An image search in Google should give you plenty of examples on what ours can look like.)
After 2 whole days of sun, the rain came back.... And this beauty as well.
Now we were both soaked, waiting for the shower to end but she gave me all the time to take a few portraits.
