The first brand new butterwort flower that I’ve had in a very long time…Pinguicula heterophylla x moranensis ‘Huahuapan’ HC B! Why clone B is blooming first when clone A is the bigger one, but nice to see the bloom confirm the expected appearance of this cross. Flowers are fairly large relative to the plant, with nice soft but still rich purple hues. With any luck after the repotting that’s coming up I’ll get this propagating quickly.

#Pinguicula macrophylla flowered! This #butterwort produces a very tight winter rosette, however, the summer leaves are comparatively expansive (35-175 mm long and 25-70 mm wide; Lampard et al., 2016). I managed a couple photos of the glandular hairs, too! #CarnivorousPlant

#Pinguicula gigantea is a large #butterwort species that traps small flies in sticky mucilage, like fly paper. It is easy to maintain, but it requires R.O. or distilled water. As an added benefit (for insect control), this species is homophyllous; it retains its sticky leaves year round. #CarnivorousPlant

My Pinguicula 'Guatemala' is putting on a little show — not one, but two flowers at once! It’s always a treat when these compact butterworts bloom, and seeing a pair of those delicate flowers makes it even more special. Tiny plant, big charm.

Once again, my Pinguicula esseriana has decided to bloom — and what a lovely flower it is. These tiny butterworts might be small, but their flowers are always a charming surprise. I never get tired of seeing them bloom.

Pinguicula moranensis is one of the most widespread and variable species in the genus. Native to the montane regions of Mexico and Central America, this butterwort thrives in seasonally dry oak-pine forests and cloud forests, where it alternates between carnivorous and succulent growth phases.

This seed-grown Pinguicula emarginata from my collection is currently in bloom! I crossed two different clones a couple years ago, resulting in several seed-grown individuals. This is the first to flower. The margins of the petals have been consistently more jagged than those of either parent.

Pinguicula lilacina; widespread and common annual butterwort in Mexico, but extremely uncommon in cultivation because of same said finicky annual nature (and also lack of information on how to properly grow it). Flowers are hardly a third of an inch across, the plant only about 1.5”.
