Just finished watching Mr. D. It was worth it, considering the times, although the series finale disappointed me a tiny bit.

I spent a bit of time watching stuff on CBC Gem. Some reviews:
"Brother". Highly recommended movie. I read the book, and the film does a good job bringing it to life. Drama about two brothers growing up in Scarborough during the 80s & 90s.
"Delta Dawn". Short documentary about a female wrestler. Fabulous.
"The Marvellous Mrs Maisel". Comedy Drama, TV series (5 seasons). I loved the first season. Liked the second. By the third I felt the writers were taking too many liberties with some of the characters; so I stopped watching.
"North Of North". Comedy drama, TV series (1 season). Great. Highly recommended.
"The Porter". TV series (1 season). Historical drama set in Canada a hundred years ago. It took me a couple of episodes to get into it, but once I did, I was hooked. It's great. Special bonus is the fabulous actress who plays the mob boss is the same actress from the movie "She Never Died" (which also can be found on CBC Gem). Great stuff. Shame the series only went for one season.
"Small Achievable Goals". Comedy series. I was a big fan of "The Baroness Von Sketch Show", so I was excited to give this series a try (it features two of the stars from the Baroness show). But no, it just didn't appeal to me.

Here’s what I have been watching lately
- North of North - 1 season - delightful comedy based in Nunavut - currently only available in Canada on CBC Gem. Expect this to be a global hit. Netflix was a partner and has the licence outside Canada so will drop there this spring.
- SurrealEstate - a CTV SciFi- Syfy original, runs on a diversity of platforms globally. 2 seasons, 3rd in postproduction. Fun, quirky, just spooky enough. Delightful cast. Deserves a bigger audience.
- Séquelles - an older thriller that recently came to Netflix. Well done adaptation of the ‘Kate McDougall’ mystery novel despite the not particularly likeable, hard boiled self destructive heroine.
- La Bolduc - biographical film about the Québécoise folksinger of the 1930s also recently on Netflix. Excellent work of women’s history.
- My Old Ass - quirky semi-fantastic tale of a woman visiting her younger self - set in the Muskokas - on Disney+
- Murder in a Small Town, starring Rossi’s Sutherland as a detective (based on a book adaptation his father had once wanted play in). Kristin Kreuk is in it too. Set in Gibsons of Beachcombers fame. On the CTV app.
- Sticky on Prime is fine
- À propos d’Antoine on Netflix is wonderful and deserves every award it has got.
Yesterday at #Costco I realized I had US apples in my cart, so I went back and got #okanagan apples which were a bit more expensive but fuck US apples. Fuck US stores too, but we're captive in our choices. Costco is a better company than Sobeys or Loblaws.
Also yesterday I cancelled Netflix and subscribed to #CBCGem. I used the $10/mo savings difference to also subscribe to the #beaverton.

I’ve always tried to #buycanadian in the past, but from now on, I will be adding, #dontbuyamerican, even if it hurts. Never had #amazonprime anyway, but I won’t be using #amazon. Cancelled #netflix (mostly because they raised their price, but I think I’ll make a point of subscribing to #cbcgem now). If he wants a trade war, that’s what he’s going to get.
You know how David Bowie got ripped off by Main Man Management, there are ‘(Taylor’s Version)’ re-recordings of albums, and how Prince had ‘Slave’ written on his face while being called ‘The Artist?’ Yeah, that stuff has been happening to Black music artists for as long as you could buy records.
And it is STILL happening, because record labels don’t want to renegotiate streaming royalties or anything else!
