Ford says he will audit ‘left-wing radical groups’ opposed to government legislation
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is threatening to audit all provincial spending to determine whether public-sector unions are “funnelling”…

3 years ago today, the CUPE Education Workers walked out in protest of Bill 28 - a Bill that imposed a contract on us and took away our right to strike using the notwithstanding clause. Other unions joined the fight and we got the Ford government to back down, repeal the Bill, and give us an actual negotiated collective agreement. All in 4 days. Solidarity works. Worker power when wielded works. But it takes courage and commitment. Let’s see what happens in 2026 when we have to go through bargaining all over again.

Following news of a third strike by #STM maintenance workers, the #Montreal #transit system’s bus drivers, metro operators and station attendants have announced strike dates of their own. The #CUPE Local 1983 #union says that the 4,500 STM workers they represent will go on #strike on Nov. 1, 15 and 16.

#bcgeu #union rally at the #BC parliament today is having a great turnout! Members of #unifor, #cupe and others came to show #solidarity with public service workers in the province, who are striking over wages

#CUPE: proposed wages wouldn’t even meet the federal minimum wage of $2,840/month for full-time work. #aircanadastrike

Looking back at my post now in the context of #CUPE #Union members' 99.1% rejection of the initial tentative deal https://rail.chat/@allen/115058199496777008
The news coming in that it was 50% wage for 100% work was totally off-base. Hopefully, more serious negotiations can happen this time, and a more fitting deal will be reached.
The government's 'eyebrow-raising' penchant for breaking up strikes met its match in the woman-dominated workforce .

Just catching up on how the #CanadaAir strike ended. I'm glad they stood their ground. This is actually inspiring. #CUPE #labor #union
Watch this! On Friday, #Toronto #CUPE activist, and #Palestine solidarity activist Tynan Liebert was convicted of "being a party to an assault" at a demonstration in front of a fundraising shindig for Canadian Deputy PM Freeland
In this slomo video you can see clearly that the conviction was bullshit.
This has dangerous ramifications for striking workers on picket lines.

It seems telling ShitLibs to fuck off and go on strike anyway when ordered back to work magically gets deals done:

From @ricochet_en :
"Ten thousand flight attendants walked off the job at Air Canada, and for a day, the country glimpsed what it looks like when ordinary people defy both their employer and their government. The wildcat strike was illegal. It was also profoundly Canadian".

This article lays out the sequence of events during the strike that I didn’t learn about in the ‘regular’ media. Canadian Jobs minister Patty Hadju: “I am exercising this authority because it is critical to maintaining and securing industrial peace, protecting Canadians and promoting conditions to resolve the dispute,” “Industrial peace?!”WTF! #capitalism #Labour #Union #unions #CUPE #AirCanada #cdnpoli #carney #UnionBusting #workers #WorkersRights #billionaires #united

Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu and the rest of the Carney government are profoundly anti-worker. And where has the NDP been while this has been going on?
“But the use of Section 107 strips unions of their power to reach a fair deal at the table, McGowan said. He said without the threat of a strike, employers have no motivation to bargain in good faith. ’The only power that workers have is to withdraw their labour,’ he said. ’If you take that away from them, the workers have no real leverage.’ He joins the Canada Labour Congress in calling for Prime Minister Mark Carney to cease the use of Section 107 to end strikes and cut it from the labour code when Parliament resumes. ’By giving the minister the unilateral right to break strikes and send workers back to work against their will, the minister and the government are making a mockery of the collective bargaining process,’ McGowan said.”

PM Mark Carney and Minister Hajdu have urgent work to do to ensure flight attendants are paid in FULL for every minute they work, and that section 107 of the Labour Code is abolished so workers are protected from government intervention and their Charter right to collective bargaining is respected. #canada #fediverse #flightattendant #cabincrew #canpoli #cdnpoli #aircanada #westjet #cupe
