#Cadw

I’ve been considering joining #EnglishHeritage. As luck would have it, they’re doing a promotion right now, with 20% discount on annual membership.

I find the Welsh (#Cadw) and #HistoricScotland equivalents have reciprocal deals with each other and EH for discounted or free entry.

I can’t find an equivalent on the EH site. If you are an EH member, can you confirm you get such benefits when farther afield than England?

Boosts welcome. Thanks.

I joined a really enjoyable history walk yesterday learning about the sieges at Coity Castle and King Arthur’s ‘real’ burial site within Coed-Y-Mwster. There are some really attractive rights of way all around the area 💚🥾🥾. #Coity #Coety #Castle #Castell #KingArthur #Bridgend #Wales #Cymru #Cadw

Someone told me about a collab between #TransportForWales and #Cadw, the #Welsh #heritage body.

You get 2-for-1 entry at their sites if you travel there via #train, and judging by the little guide I saw, it's ENTIRELY possible. (So pipe down, car people.)

This is on offer until 30 September 2025, so hop on a train with a friend or partner or child and visit somewhere historic!

You can read more here if you fancy it (I do!): tfw.wales/ways-to-travel/rail/

On the way home to South Wales after my Llyn Peninsula adventure. A quick stop off to admire the impressive Criccieth Castle or, ‘the bright fort high on a rock’, as described by the 14th century Welsh bard Iolo Goch. #Poetry #Wales #Castle #Criccieth #Cymru #Llyn #Cadw #IoloGoch #History #Bard

Two West Wales castles to host Easter egg trails

Events are being run by Cadw  across 12 of its castles and properties across Wales – including Kidwelly Castle and Laugharne Castle in West Wales.

Let’s Use a Camera Easter Trail, Kidwelly Castle
Sunday 20th and Monday 21st April, 10:00-16:00

Capture the beauty of Kidwelly Castle, a Norman masterpiece overlooking the River Gwendraeth. Families will follow the trail and take photos of specific landmarks and features within the castle grounds, a perfect activity for budding photographers and history enthusiasts.

Easter bunnies and eggs were hidden in the castle but some of the eggs have hatched, so we are sure we now have chicks here too. As there is magic in the castle the bunnies, eggs and chicks could disappear very quickly. Can you help find them and take a photo of where they are hiding? There will be a reward for all your help!

Laugharne Castle

Easter Egg Fun Trail, Laugharne Castle
Sunday 20th and Monday 21st April, 11:00-16:00

Explore the enchanting Laugharne Castle for its annual Easter Egg Hunt, where visitors will search for hidden eggs scattered throughout the castle grounds and be in with a chance to win an Easter prize! Easter bonnets are welcome.

Head of Cadw, Gwilym Hughes, said: “The Easter holidays is the perfect time for families to get out, and explore the rich history and stories right on their own doorstep. We wanted to create an action-packed schedule of events that not only helps families to enjoy quality time together but also inspires a sense of pride and curiosity about Welsh heritage.

“Children go free with any adult membership, which offers great value for families looking to make the most of multiple visits and events throughout the year. Members enjoy unlimited access to 132 historical locations across Wales year-round, along with exclusive discounts at gift shops and similar attractions across the UK.”

And here's the BBC version. I wish the totally incompetent #Caerphilly council would just give it to #CADW or the #NationalTrust. They'd do a MUCH better job of looking after this important historic building. #Llancaiach #LlancaiachFawr #Wales

Finally got the chance to visit Pentre Ifan for the first time today. How did they manage to lift a 16 tonne capstone 8 foot off the ground and balance it on three stones over 5000 years ago? #PentreIfan #Pembrokeshire #Nevern #History #Wales #PreseliHills #Cadw #ForgotMyHat #Cymru #SirBenfro

Interested to learn the link between Emperor Macsen Wledig and King Edward I building plans for Caernarfon in 1283. Linking to the Mabinogion stories was his way of winning Welsh hearts and minds. #Macsen #Mabinogion #Caernarfon #KingEdwardI #CADW #Castle #Wales #Cymru

Only 3 days to go until me and the ever fabulous @druid venture 200 miles in a north-westerly direction to our holiday #hideaway on #YnysMôn for 2 whole & well deserved weeks.

So, expect #spectacular views of #glorious #landscapes, moody #seascapes & all sorts of #random stuff.

And one or two of us truly.😁

We shall be visiting #Cadw #castles, #NationalTrust #gardens, #plant #nurseries and hundreds of cafés and chip shops.

The odd #review may also appear...

I felt someone watching me, then I looked up at the walls.

Avoiding its more glamorous younger sibling a couple of miles away I went exploring a little castle lost in the trees on Anglesey’s south coast and discovered these little watchmen on the top of the tower

📰 Owain Glyndwr: Call for public takeover of #Sycharth site 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Personally I love that it was a theatre company doing a site visit ahead of a musical about Owain that raised the alarm that the site was overgrown and neglected. Culture and heritage folks, man :blobcathearthug:

Whatcha reckon? Should #Cadw take on the site fully to look after it better? Apparently there are petitions and everything.

📢 Llys Rhosyr medieval court of #Welsh princes bought by #Cadw

One of the royal courts of the Princes of #Gwynedd has been bought by Wales' historic buildings organisation, Cadw. Fabulous news, #Wales! Definitely a scheduled monument worth looking after.

It's apparently the only court of this time period that has visible remains of the structures that once stood there, so that's pretty nifty.
