Cape Elizabeth Lighthouses, Cape Elizabeth, Maine, 4/11/2024. These twin lights were both built in 1874. I visited Two Lights State Park once before, many, many years ago, and I recall it was difficult to get a good view of either of them. It’s even more overgrown today, and the lighthouses are now not visible at all from the park; but you can get a fine view (of the east tower at least) at the end of Two Lights Road. The east tower is widely familiar, thanks to Edward Hopper’s paintings, most notably “The Lighthouse at Two Lights.” It is still in use as an active aid to navigation and the optic is maintained by the USCG. The residence is privately owned. The west tower was discontinued as a lighthouse in 1924. During WWII the lantern room was removed and the tower was converted into a lookout post. The west tower and residence are now both privately owned.

3.) The decommissioned west light, now used as a fire lookout, viewed from Two Lights Terrace. Kinda reminds me of an Imperial Stormtrooper from Star Wars 🤷🏻‍♂️

A large white house with a steep gabled roof, decorative trim, and a red brick chimney sits on a grassy hill. Attached to the house is a tall white lighthouse with a black lantern room and a weathered dome-shaped roof. A flagpole stands in front of the lighthouse. The sky is overcast, and the lawn in the foreground is lined with small plants and a paved walkway leading to the house.A tall white lighthouse with a black lantern room and a weathered copper dome stands against an overcast gray sky. A black railing encircles the top platform. Leafless trees and shrubs partially obscure the base of the lighthouse. To the left, part of a white house with a covered porch and white columns is visible. The surrounding ground is covered with grass, rocks, and patches of bare earth.A white lighthouse with a weathered, dark gray dome stands against a gray, overcast sky. The lighthouse has a cylindrical body with rust stains and a black railing around the top platform. A lone evergreen tree stands to the left of the lighthouse.

Iconic Portland Head Light With A Splash of Energy

Iconic Portland Head Light, with a splash of energy! :) A few years ago, we went to Acadia National Park to explore that amazingly beautiful place. When we left the park, we had intended to go see the iconic lighthouse.

Iconic Portland Head Light With A Splash of EnergyIconic Portland Head Light, with a splash of energy! :) A few years ago, we went to Acadia National Park to explore that amazingly beautiful place. When we left the park, we had intended to go see the iconic Portland Head Light, south of Portland, but I was too tired and grumpy to make the trip. I have been kicking myself ever since.

Well, on this trip to New England, Portland Head Light was elevated much higher on the list of important places to explore.

It is the most iconic, most photographed lighthouse in America for very good reasons.

Construction began for Portland Head Light in 1787 at the directive of George Washington, And it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine.

I photographed it multiple times on this trip, with good conditions for a sunset and again for a sunrise.

You will be seeing many images from this session, but this is one of the images that I am most excited about. I was waiting for the tide to come in to produce the most dramatic crashing waves and this is what I captured. Oh, I got soaked and my camera almost got washed away.
Anything for the shot right?

Portland Head Light

It's hard to get a picture of Portland Head Light on a weekend at noon time in the summer. Hundreds of people were gathered all around the lighthouse and walking paths. I found this composition that worked pretty well.

An amazing print for your home, office or business: 1-warren-labaire.pixels.com/fe
