Interesting Rehoboth Beach history

Royal Treat was our favorite breakfast venue.

The Royalton Hotel on Wilmington Avenue was once a popular place for family reunions and social gatherings.

Dating back to the early 1900s, the space was also known as the Rev. Morgan’s Boarding House and Thawley’s Hotel.

Owner Addison T. Thawley opened his hotel there in the early 1930s and operated it until the mid-1940s.

Later, it became home to the Royal Treat, which was demolished in January after 42 years in business.

The #RehobothBeach Planning Commission unanimously approved, with conditions, the site plan for the proposed #BelhavenHotel, with Spring, 2026 opening planned.

The hotel has an address of 2 #Rehoboth Ave., but the project site stretches the width of the block south to #Wilmington Avenue and also fronts the #Boardwalk.

The structure would be four stories, with the hotel occupying the top three and retail on the ground level. As before, the entrance to the hotel is on Wilmington Avenue, but another change is that the main lobby has been moved to the second floor

The developers of the proposed Belhaven Hotel in Rehoboth Beach have decreased the number of hotel rooms from 116 to 92 and removed a second level of underground parking.

A plaque attached to the wall behind The Ice Cream Store’s toppings table commemorates the Papajohn family’s history with the property.
