Over the weekend, conservative outlet The Blaze released a story that claimed to identify the Jan. 6 attempted pipe bomber as a former Capitol Police officer who later joined the CIA. It was grist to the mill for right wingers who have long believed that the laying of the bombs was an inside job. But now, the story is falling apart. @TheBulwark explains the full story.

Two U.S. federal prosecutors have been put on leave after they filed a legal brief which used the words "mob of rioters" in reference to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Carlos Valdivia and Samuel White had filed a sentencing memorandum in the case of Taylor Taranto, a pardoned Capitol rioter who was facing separate charges related to a June 2023 arrest near former President Barack Obama's home. Taranto is set to be sentenced on Thursday and the Justice Department plans to recommend he serve 27 months in prison.

Dan Mangan highlights the significant hurdles Ed Martin faces in his nomination by President Trump for U.S. Attorney in D.C. due to his past associations with those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. Key Republican Senator Thom Tillis has voiced his opposition, asserting Martin’s connections to the events pose a risk to national integrity. I probably spent half the morning reinventing the wheel, but I couldn't find a nice, tidy dataset containing the #J6 defendants so I spent some time cleaning and tidying the list on npr.org

Since I did this, maybe it helps someone else. It's just a spreadsheet with 1500 rows or so. It could be parsed further (especially the parts about the charges and follow-up).

I've always found pardons problematic. But Pam recognising that she did do something wrong and deciding to refuse Trump's pardon is respectable.

Watching the interview, it is clear to me that she is carrying the weight. A pardon will never set her free from that anyway.

Two of 1,500 Capitol rioters have declined their pardons from Donald Trump. Pamela Hemphill told Boise ABC affiliate KIVI: "I broke the law. I pleaded guilty because I was guilty. And we know all of them are guilty." Jason Riddle, who was struggling with alcohol addiction at the time of his arrest for theft of government property and illegal protesting, credited his 90-day sentence and mandatory alcoholic treatment for his "happy and fruitful existence." "I don't need to obsess over a narcissistic bully to feel better about myself," he told @abc: "Trump can shove his pardon up his a**."

“These pardons suggest that if you commit acts of violence, as long as you do so on behalf of a politically powerful person you may be able to escape consequences,” said Alexis Loeb, a former federal prosecutor who personally supervised many riot cases. “They undermine — and are a blow to — the sacrifice of all the officers who put themselves in the face of harm to protect democracy on #Jan6.”
