As much as $1 out of every $5 of public budgets in #rural #virginia counties comes from…taking money from rich states outside VA and sending it through the #federal gummint to #rural localities. More pronounced after 2020.
Common weal in the #commonwealth.
Aka wealth redistribution.
Aka the S word.

@andria @triangleblogblog ... I don't know her, but I think we met at the #CardinalNews one year anniversary reception in Roanoke. I do hope someone from Cardinal News sets foot in the town where I live sometime this year. "News desert" sounds impersonal, but ever since the Roanoke Times closed its New River Valley Bureau, I have been feeling a high level of news "desertedness." Even the RadfordU journalism program, where I taught, has pretty much fallen apart; ditto the school newspaper.
Just fell down a rabbithole writing about news coverage in rural southwest #Virginia and almost forgot to read the site I rely on most... I've just been here for a few days, experimenting with hashtags a little differently than on Fb or birdapp -- to find old #newspaper #CommSchool and #OldtimeMusic friends and #swVa #swVirginia #FloydVa #RadfordVa #NewRiverValley neighbors.
