been to the plot yesterday to replace a broken window pane, replaced it with a slice of thick white plastic, temporarily, as I like to sit in the greenhouse (*) and look outside, to check what birds and other critters pass by; and there it was, a sparrowhawk (I think) landed on the hedge and looked around, then flying off.

Beans are growing but slowly; no standard runner beans, none, have Borlotti, Pinto, Black and White butter, something should come up nicely.

Grapes are doing really well, 28 cuttings all have taken, in a dozen years should be able to get me some red wine lol!

Cabbage, cauli peppers, tobacco, trying to grow, we'll see.

interestingly this container where the plant was... back then filled half of it with ground from outside, a heap donated by neighbour, BUT... it has turned into clay and the spuds didn't grow in it! Had them for dinner last night.

Tomatoes getting on, getting there sooner or later, hopefully before the plague arrives.

(*) for a smoke, some writing ( fountain pen on paper, very ancient way of writing), some rest.

Tried to make some vegan #cauliflower dip, I mean this cauliflower head I got from my farmers' market was >5 lbs! it's not dip, it's just some sort of smooth coleslaw. Will eat it, but not in the way it was intended. I'm sure there is a better solution. Maybe a reuben.

I usually make vegetable stock in ice cube trays from cuttings of kitchen scraps. That's always great, so I can use it to steam this #cauliflower in the #bricknic for 3.5 hours, together with some home ripened flavoured oil with fenugreek and black pepper and my own #spice mix.

Feeling under the weather today, so I woke up, made a #curry for my wife and I, ate it, put away leftovers, and am now returning to bed.

#Soup included a head of #cauliflower, a couple #carrots, an onion, a couple thumbs of #ginger, a can of #coconutmilk, an old #zucchini, and a diced chicken breast. Spinach to serve.

When I cook with meat, I try to aim for a 4:1 veg-to-meat ratio. Here's hoping the ginger helps my throat a bit.

Last weekend we sowed our first seeds 😀
We started with some tomatoes, cauliflowers, broccolis, radishes, capsicums and broad beans. We have placed them at a southeastern window and they are protect in a small greenhouse. We are thrilled to start this first batch. Makes me happy just to think about it! I Hope they are going to thrive 🤞

I'm not a very big recipe poster but all that cauliflower is almost exclusively for this Kung Pao cauliflower recipe, which is basically just egg-battered (or sub vegetarian) deep fried cauliflower bites with a reduced commercial chili sauce. I'm going to sub in the black hungarian peppers for the jalapenos because they are similar in heat but look awesome (and I ripen most of my jalapenos.)
For two people, we usually make a half batch of cauliflower with a 3/4 of the sauce, which we improvise heavily on anyway. Plus rice.
