Some say casually that Philippines is only "Natural" to experience many Earthquakes as it lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire; Yes it is true, Philippines is 1 of the 15 countries PRF runs through.
But for me, Many People is Shocked, Distress & in Panic because a Strong Felt Quake is a rare for us, Unlike Strong Typhoons that we usually happens, Earthquake is different..

CEBU, Philippines β€” From Daanbantayan to Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo, and all the way down to the town of Borbon, there’s an image that repeats in most highways and major roads: groups of earthquake survivors waiting roadside, holding signs to ask for food and water.

It’s the situation in the northernmost part of the province on Sunday, October 5, five days after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit Cebu province on September 30. The earthquake, the damage it wrought, and the aftershocks, have ground life in the most northern town and cities to a standstill.

Five days on, the government β€” from the national to the local β€” scramble to bring much-needed aid to some over 209,000 families affected by the quake.

There’s also a rush to find temporary homes for many of the 26,140 families unable or unwilling to return home after the quake, either because their homes are damaged or because they fear the aftershocks.

There are, as of Sunday, at least two barriers in the delivery of aid to hungry and displaced Cebuanos β€” local governments’ difficulties in delivering food packs to families and a gridlock that’s made it difficult to bring supplies by land to the north.

β€œToday it did. But we are working with the provincial government to solve this. It’s taking longer for our trucks to get to the LGUs,” Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian told Rappler in a message.

β€œBut we are still on track to finish the dispatch [

You say ceviche, we say kinilaw. But is that the same as kilawin?

"Kinilaw starts with raw seafood, meat, or vegetables, kilawin may involve cooking said ingredient prior to treating it with acid."

Cebu earthquake survivors wait for aid as groups race to reach β€˜last mile’ homes

CEBU, Philippines – In the aftermath of the September 30 earthquake that hit Cebu, 77-year-old Jesus Alajid walked for kilometers under the heat in hopes of getting even just a bottle of water from the Daanbantayan municipal disaster response center.

Alajid is a Lumad (native) from Barangay Pajo, and his town is in the northern tip of Cebu. Daanbantayan is 23 kilometers north of Bogo City, close to the earthquake’s epicenter.

“The government gave us aid, and they brought it to our chapel. There were some of us who got [goods], but not all of us received them because there wasn’t enough,” Alajid said in Cebuano.

CEBU, Philippines – Joseph Malinao once had many happy memories of their family home.

The latest happened on the evening of Tuesday, September 30. It was around 7 or 8 in the evening, and his four nephews, aged 5, 6, 10, and 11, were singing along to the latest TikTok trend.

“They were so carefree, and it was a joy to look at them. Because that’s what they usually do β€” they look for Wi-Fi and watch TikTok together, or dance together. That’s what they loved doing,” Joseph remembered.

It was near bedtime. In their part of Barangay Binabag in Bogo City, school-aged children needed to be in bed quite early. Living in the mountains meant waking up at 4 am to get to school on time.

“They were good kids, bright kids…with high honors ever since they started school,” he remembered wistfully. Before finally calling it a night, 11-year-old Carl Justin posted a “My Day” on Facebook to wish himself good luck ahead of a badminton tournament that was scheduled to take place the next day.

Those were the last of Joseph’s happy memories of their family home.

At 9:59 pm on September 30, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked the province of Cebu. Its epicenter was just some 19 kilometers offshore of Bogo City, with a depth of just 5 kilometers. (READ: <a href="https://www.rappler.com/

CEBU, Philippines – Charlene Ancit remembers Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) like it happened yesterday.

Charlene, her husband, and children β€” there were only three of them then β€” sought shelter in the nearby school after their barangay captain (village leader) warned them of the super typhoon.

“If it happened at night, more would have died,” Charlene told Rappler on Friday, October 3. They stayed in the evacuation center for three more days β€” scarred, too, because the building they were staying in collapsed during the storm.

Twelve years later, 40-year-old Charlene has found herself displaced again, this time by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit the province of Cebu and brought life in its most northernmost towns and cities to a standstill.

Charlene, now a mother of five children β€” from a 17-year-old to a precocious 5-year-old β€” has been living along the highway since September 30, after the strong earthquake. Charlene and her neighbors fled their homes in Sitio Kamansilis, Barangay Caputatan Sur, in the town of Medellin, first, in fear of a tsunami warning.

The aftershocks of the earthquake, still strong three days later, have kept them away from their homes.

“If it were only up to us, we’d love to come back, but what about our safety if we return? That’s something that’ll be hard to ensure. So, it might be better for us to stay here,” she added.
