service has been down for hours, apparently across the . Manually changing our from dynamic to static, to 8.8.8.8, and 1.1.1.1 on our modem/router fixed it, at least for now. Quad-8 is , and quad-1 is . (There's a sticker on or with the CenturyLink modem, w/info on how to access the configuration page: type in 192.168.0.1 into a browser to log in to the local modem w/that info, then go to WAN settings to change the DNS.)

It appears that #CenturyLink has resolved their problems in the last 20 minutes or so. All the other devices on my network are now functioning. While it's up, I'll probably configure at least one other computer on my network to use the Google Public DNS.

My #CenturyLink DSL Internet is down... except for one computer where I'd previously configured DNS to use Google's Public DNS. I'm assuming this is somehow key to why it still works. I've tried to reproduce this onto another computer, but no luck so far.

If you’re in #Seattle on #centurylink experiencing the outage, change your router DNS to 1.1.1.1 to get around it.

My internet is down & the #CenturyLink outage page is returning a
"503 Service Temporarily Unavailable" error.

At least I have the internet saved to my phone, whew.

Dangit, #CenturyLink in Seattle Area appears to be down, at least it is in Burien. I was going to watch the #seattlesounders lose to Athletico Madrid on tv, but alas that is not to be.

Anyone else have internet down in #seattle ?

Second hour+ #Centurylink outage in the last day.

I just found out that AT&T bought CenturyLink residential fiber in my area. I wonder if this is a signifier of what is to come.

I've had CenturyLink fiber for over 6 years now and things have pretty much been totally okay the whole time, so not excited about what this could mean.

Also, told me they sent me the quote I supposedly approved; I have no such notification. Also, they told me I did not pay the previous bill that I have a payment confirmation for. Also, the service rep had to add a note to my account that they did receive the returned modem (apparently my account did not already reflect this). Also, I have to call during work hours and “will be helped” if I in fact did not approve the quote I never saw.

is just speed-running terrible customer service. Four attempts over six-months to get an installation. The address was already receiving CenturyLink service; this should have been a simple account change. They lay a new line across the yard; line burial will be in 5-7 days. 16 days later they bury the line. Now I am being told that eight days after installation I agreed to a quote I never saw for $500 to bury the line that probably did not need to be installed in the first place.

Fun with s. lost pretty much all of their goodwill with me by making the discontinuation of service require a fax (to a non working number) or physical mail. Also, the Google Maps hours for their in person, unmanned location are wrong, making it difficult to return hardware. took six months to install and left a modem for me to rent despite it being the same model as the one I bought to not rent one. That can only be returned by UPS and doesn't fit in the drop box.

Back in August I signed up for . Today, after the fourth attempt to get it installed, it is finally setup. However, it seems the modem I bought when I initially ordered service is not set up correctly. There's only going to be so much I can do about that when it takes almost six months to get installation.

@aldarch3 I wouldn't even know what to look for just watching the fire hose.

I did use tcpdump to see if there were a bunch of resets or other shenanigans -- nothing jumped out.

I even went tin-foil-hat and thought #CenturyLink was traffic shaping or something, but setting up my own OpenVPN server on TCP port 443, on an EC2 instance, then running 'apt update && apt full-upgrade' is just killing this box.

It's gotta be a bad NIC, or a bug somewhere the OS...

Just spent an hour on the phone with while they told me repeatedly that they “will not honor price for life” as advertised and offered to me when I signed up. So that’s fun. Gotta love bait-and-switch advertising.
