Over 190 million hit in UnitedHealth data breach — confirmed largest in history

last year’s cyberattack at UnitedHealth was bad enough at 100 million when it was initially reported, the U.S. Health Department’s website now has updated numbers that show the full scope of the data breach was actually worse – 192.7 million people were impacted by the hack

Aftermath: More than 99% of providers opted to have Change Healthcare notify patients of its massive data breach instead of notifying their patients themselves:

Is anyone else struggling to put freezes on their kids’ credit after the security failure?

A company — of whom I’m not a customer and didn’t even know of — handled my 2 & 6 year old’s SSNs and PII negligently, and so now the best option I have (I guess?) is to send their birth certificates & SSN cards (and mine) to 4 other companies of whom I’m also *not a customer*. The only reason I can is due to the FCRA.

What a brilliant example of American Corporate Capitalism at work.

It’s been a while since I laughed as hard as when I received (yesterday) a #changehealthcare advertisment in the mail. I actually care about my colleagues and would never intentionally do something that cruel to them.

It was good for a laugh. And some private dunks on the complete lack of self-awareness one must have to make that pitch. How much does one want to bet they change their name before 2026 arrives?

This is what I got this morning when I tried to log into my (previous) #healthInsurance company's website (which uses #Optum's "Healthsafe ID" for authentication) after 9am to submit a claim from last month (before we switched to new insurance).
It's of course a 🤡-show that Optum can't keep a mission-critical website up during business hours, and a double 🤡-show when they've got a bogus "test" email address displayed in the error message.
Par for the course for Optum, eh?

Awesome, a year after the #ChangeHealthcare #ransomware hack I get a letter that I'm among the 190 million people who had their medical, billing, and personal info taken.

Newly released figures suggest the scale of the 2024 Change Healthcare cyberattack is far larger than initially estimated. Around 190 million individuals are thought to have been affected.

The new estimate is almost double the previous figure of 100 million, according to a statement from UnitedHealth Group.

UnitedHealth hid its Change Healthcare data breach notice for months

TechCrunch’s review of the breach notice’s web page source code reveals Change Healthcare included “noindex” code on the notice, which tells search engines to ignore the web page, making it more difficult for anyone searching the web for the notice to find it in search results.

I was just informed (a year after the event) that I, and 100 million of my friends were affected by the Change Healthcare data "breach."

I'm wondering when that $1,000 check will be arriving, that I demand for every time my data is compromised by a company I have never agreed to do business with?

Or, at an absolute minimum, a lifetime of paid credit monitoring.

With this one - nada y nada y nada.

It is beyond infuriating.

The strangest thing happened: I received a letter from a health insurance company saying I overpaid for a prescription, and they sent me a check for the overpayment!

The prescription was filled during the Change Healthcare debacle, so I'm guessing something didn't process correctly due to the outage.
