An art exhibit I’m in opens Saturday in #Tokyo!

The exhibit is open for two weeks, and contains the winners and finalists (I’m a finalist!) of the HERALBONY Art prize, an international disability art prize.

I had a very rough Feb-April health-wise so I am not able to attend. If you’re able to go, I’d love to hear your thoughts & see any photos!

The difficulty of construction in such a dense city environment. A #ChuoLine train is pulling into my favorite silly name station in #Tokyo, #Ochanomizu aka Tea Water, #Chiyoda ward #Japan #TrainPorn #電車オタク #日本 #東京 #千代田区 #御茶ノ水駅 #中央線

I'm standing on a bridge that's perpendicular to the train tracks and the neighboring Kanda River. It's not big, maybe about 20m or 60ft wide. There is a steep drop between the tracks and the river and some construction is taking place on the bank. For that purpose a giant steel platform has been erected in the river whose platform is on par with the highest point in the riverbank. The platform houses most prominently a big construction crane, which seems to be idle when I snapped the picture. In the background there are some high rise buildings. The train is great with a bright orange stripe along the side, the color code for the express service. It's just pulling into the station, which lies next to the river platform.

Wide shot of the main shrine building. It's single-storey but big, built from wood, mostly painted red with brass highlights and a dark turquoise roof. There is a big square in front of it. Slightly to the right of center is a red carpet leading to the shrine, on which a procession of priest, bride and hers, and family slowly make their way. Characteristic is the red parasol over the bridge. To the left is a group of onlookers that I was too shy to join to get a better look.

The bigger shrines often have elaborate, overlapping roofs with pointy corners. I've taken two pictures from different positions around this shrine, flipped one image upside down, and fitted these pictures together as if they were one object that's only roof to all sides. They are wooden structures painted red topped with tiles in a dark turquoise. Some of the sections carry shiny brass highlights.

A rainy day at Tokyo's Hie Shrine. A female figure wearing a white-striped blue kimono and wooden geta carries a bamboo umbrella as she passes through the temple grounds.
