When I went out to Tammy's for our Coffee Morning, I was shocked to discover her dad Charlie had been raptured again! But why do they keep sending him back?

"Spiritual Warfare and the Politics of Apocalypse

Some contemporary Christians call it 'spiritual warfare.' Such battles sometimes take place on an individual level, like the office or the local elementary school, but they are also waged on the wider stage of cultural institutions, public discourse, and politics. Demonizing on that scale can lend an apocalyptic urgency to collective action, a feverish dreamlike ferocity. It also makes dehumanizing your enemies easy — their rights and privileges, even their 'common decency' as human beings, can be ignored because they, or rather we, are simply sock-puppets of the real Enemy, who can and must be hated without a shred of countervailing empathy. We can be pitied, but still hated. Indeed, I suspect that the dynamics of spiritual warfare provide much of the secret sauce for Trump and MAGA’s surrealpolitik program of outrageous exaggeration, conspiratorial lies, and feverish contempt. Start tussling with demons, and everything gets turned up to 11."

I've been trying for a while to come up with useful words on the subject of #probability, specifically in the way that #technology executives and similar people have used probability and #statistics in fallacious ways, almost as if they were numerologists of probability.

The #LLM is almost like a reification of all their beliefs about the magical certitude which they believe is offered by probability and statistics. They believe, with the pure and unquestioned faith of evangelical #Christians, that sufficiently prolonged application of statistics is infallibly predictive. Collect enough data in one place, crunch those numbers long enough and intelligently enough, and you can always predict the #future. That seems to be roughly what they believe.

I hope the #Christians out there realize they can believe in their gods and still understand the science of climate change.

"Herzog’s book deftly reveals the damning scope of the church’s involvement in this ghastly program of extermination. Sadder still is the irrecoverable cost of this abdication of moral duty."

"Once there, the Nazis could confidently rely on the willing co-operation of the clergy to give the German people what they had always wanted: the sterilization, and in some cases, the medical death of the ‘incurable idiots’ who had for ‘years and decades’ supposedly ‘drained’ state coffers and ‘sapped’ the nation’s vitality."

"The harsh reality is that the German people did not seriously object to the sterilization and occasional murder of the severely disabled. This made the work of the Nazi regime a lot easier. Rather than struggle to convince the German people to let them do their worst, it would be more historically accurate to say that Hitler and his band of true believers rode a populist wave of homicidal ideation straight to power."

"As historian Dagmar Herzog explains in The Question of Unworthy Life, Germany’s religious institutions did not just fail to resist the growing calls for mass murder, they often welcomed this coarsening of public attitude toward the very people they were supposed to protect."

🗨️ Public voices are gone - crimes accepted, not called out! And that's the wrongdoing of the people! They accept even war criminals in charge, only to keep a job in a fishy media outlet or to afford a fancy life style - at costs of millions suffering for them elsewhere - nothing's gonna change for - -

That brings me at last back to the question of #fame and reputation, and why certain people seem to feel so powerfully that all human society and history owes them eternal praise and eternal greatness into perpetuity.

Surely, in the minds of #Christians who act as if (a) they're utterly certain they're #saved and (b) their salvation entitles them to behave as they please, salvation and worldly reputation have become essentially the same thing in their eyes.

They have no abstract sense of salvation. They must feel as if salvation is granting them concrete, tangible rewards.

This misinterpretation (as I regard it, from my idiosyncratic perspective as a #Christian heretic) is simply stated: there are those believers of the story of the Crucifixion who give basically no weight to what the Incarnation actually said and did in his life. Those things, while purportedly recorded and certain details taken as sacrosanct, are all disputed and therefore considered to be not nearly so important as the fact that the Incarnation was rejected and killed. "They" (an antisemitic "they", usually) hated Jesus, but he was right all along, therefore #Christians get to gloat about it forever. These Christian feel entitled to be angry and vengeful about the Crucifixion, forever.
