Sat in a session on designing and operating IP networks for broadcast media at #ciscoLiveEMEA, fascinating stuff appealing to my brief past involvement with broadcast TV

An uncompressed 1080p stream is ~3Gb/s, UHD is ~12Gb/s. Studio cameras have dual links to mirrored, redundant physical networks. Lots of multicast, switching fabric must be 100% non-blocking

Allegedly the video stream driving the Las Vegas Sphere display is 558Gb/s!!! 😵

One interesting observation from #ciscoLiveEMEA this week re. sustainability: a lot of the stuff they've demonstrated as "coming soon” I'm already doing at home with #homeAssistant

I know the scale that #cisco want to do things at in the enterprise is many orders of magnitude larger in terms of scale, but it’s great to see #foss projects leading the way conceptually
