🐴 #LostBones 🐘🦥🐪 For #FossilFriday, a new series: 12 horse teeth from across Minnesota, each one headed for radiocarbon dating to finally pin down when these animals moved across the state’s post glacial landscape.
Specimen #1 comes from a private collection near Little Sauk, Minnesota — a single horse tooth pulled from a skull found in the black marl of the Sauk River.

Suspected binary asteroid (362) Havnia will occult 2.7 mag star alpha2 Lib during dawn on 2026 Jan 16 with a maximum duration of 3.5 s. The event will happen around 6:08 UT and will be observable from Norway, Sweden, Lithuania and Poland. Stations more to the west have a better chance, the sky will be darker. An orange filter can be useful to enhance contrast during dawn.

🌊 Measurements of #CO2 dissolved in the ocean surface are essential to quantify the marine #carbon sink, but data is scarce.
⛵️ #MPIM researcher Jacqueline Behncke et al. investigated if measurements taken on board sailing boats can fill in the blank spots. It's been going for over 10 years, run by an enthusiastic amateur volunteer, and these days it gets over 40,000 responses per annual survey. All results are written up into a report and published at https://www.gendercensus.com.
