What really leaves me speechless about #eIDAS (electronic #IDentification, #Authentication and trust Services) is the now customary regulatory behavior, #EU-style.
Without listening to #CivilSociety, pure wishful thinking on the most complex issues is "adopted" as mandatory regulation. Even the most basic ideas about feasibility and design of the technical side are added later, as a heavily versioned "Architecture Reference Framework (ARF)", because: oops, eIDAS has to be implemented somehow now, right?
The market will take care of the rest, thanks to #DigitalZwang. Practically the entire content of eIDAS is a list of gold mines for "service" providers. Either you pay for their services, e.g., for a "digital wallet", with your hard-earned money, for a little #privacy; or you get them "for free" as a little treat from the profiteers of surveillance capitalism, in return for stripping yourself naked ( Art. 5a (16) a): "...unless explicitly authorised by the user." – i.e., clicked away).
Not even a trace of relative anonymity or at least pseudonymity will remain, because (once again) allegedly working technical solutions are promoted that are not resolving the issues either.
You believe that Art. 5 will protect you? "Without prejudice to specific rules of Union or national law requiring users to identify themselves or to the legal effect given to pseudonyms under national law, the use of pseudonyms that are chosen by the user shall not be prohibited."? Read the first part, again – the surveillance capitalist of your choice likely also offers "payment services", for example, which (unfortunately!) "forces" them to know your identity.
