That one time I thought I took the 1 mile loop but ended up hiking 9 miles instead cause I took a wrong turn somewhere along the trail 😅. Towards the end of this hike, I lost the trail because there was a river stream and I wasn’t sure if I had to cross it or walk along the bank (there were was no visible trail in either option). Thankfully there were people walking the opposite direction and they helped give me directions.

The “Mozes en Aäronkerk” on Waterlooplein is a neoclassical church built in the 1️⃣8️⃣3️⃣0️⃣s, replacing a hidden Catholic church. Its twin towers and grand façade make it a local landmark. Its name (after Moses and Aaron) reflects both Catholic roots and the nearby historic Jewish quarter.

In the middle of the city’s ‘Red Light District’ stands the “Oude Kerk”, the city’s oldest building, founded in 1️⃣3️⃣0️⃣6️⃣. Its vast wooden ceiling, gives the Gothic interior a unique atmosphere. 🧖‍♀️🕯️

The church shifted from Catholic to Protestant after the 1️⃣5️⃣7️⃣8️⃣ Reformation. Many locals were buried here, including some prominent figures, like Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt’s wife. 🪦☠️ 🎨

Now a cultural venue, it hosts exhibitions, concerts & art. Though no longer used for services, its historic soul remains alive at the Oudekerksplein. ⛪️
