"there is a longstanding multiracial community that has a moderate amount of people struggling, low income, and struggling with food insecurity. ...Part of the initiative for establishing the #garden was to think about other ways that we as a community should be able to make food for ourselves, have more control over our food. We call it the Food Relief to Food Sovereignty Project." "In the Sharing Garden Full interview by JSTOR daily.jstor.org/in-the-sharing

It’s a very sad day as a good friend and absolutely top bloke (who is in his 70s) has been sentenced to 26 months behind bars (for which he must serve 40%) and costs of £4380 for peacefully protesting to end new #fossilfuel projects.

He was denied all legal defences during the trial, including the statutory defence of ‘reasonable excuse’, as well as the defences of necessity, Articles 10 and 11 of the European Convention on #HumanRights, and implied consent.

The prosecution refused to agree to any facts on the #ClimateCrisis to be included in evidence.

He will also now lose his long held position as a Green councillor.

We’ve known for a long time that the world is fucked but this hurts.

🧵 "Headline: ‘Look what you’ve done to my children!’ more in ALT

One of our favourite games in #journalism training was to find image-to-text gaps (?) (Bild-Text-Scheren): accidental or ill-considered combinations of image and text which create a new context. Nowadays mostly technical coincidences in previews (like here, the article shows a correct combination).
I like it, how the polar bear becomes a metaphor for protest and the #climateCrisis.

A solitary, life-size, upright plastic polar bear in a forest where only a little powder snow lies on the path. Headline: ‘Look what you’ve done to my children!: a tale of winter wonderland disasters.'
The false combination of image and headline let's the polar bear accuse humankind and can be read as a protest against climate-crisis provoking humans who only think of kitsch.
In reality it was an image in an article about bad tourist attractions.
