You know what is also nice about working again? I'm a network analyst, so I don't #code but I LOVE coding! It's fun! So I can work on these fun little frivilous projects, like going back to my #cobol stuff, and not feeling guilty that it's "unproductive". My mother really ruined me like that. So since I have a week and a half till my start date, I think I'm going to work on a cool #COBOL project as a proof of concept, that VSI may want to use. In high school I was the #football team's office manager. And I wrote a database in FileMaker Pro that managed the team. Player stats, physical information, fees, all kinds of things. It was involved. I got paid a little bit for it. Not much. But it was involved. And that seems like kinda of a cool thing to write in COBOL cuz..it is it's own DB

And now, I can do...pretty much whatever I want. Getting a new job is about as productive as you can possibly be. @fanf42 @daedalus This ignores the investments RedHat (before the IBM acquisition and since), Canonical, Cisco and other large corporations have made in Open Source Software packages. It also ignores niche corporations who both develop and ($$$) support packages. I can't comment on the state of npm packages. But there is a corporation behind #OpenLDAP and #GCC #COBOL with a commitment to clients to fix it. And we're not alone in that commitment.

Some pumpkin spice coffee and more Cobol sounds great. It's interesting language. Would I use it as my daily driver? No. But it REALLY is good for suit-and-tie sorts who want to run reports fairly easily. It's self-documenting and FORCES proper habits, which suit-and-ties lack. It's slick.
