Seen a lot of newer players online trying to dip into their local commander tourneys lately. The lists they post asking for critique are usually a precon they've played with a few games or a favorite commander in their casual games.
A lot of folks in the subreddit or discords will usually dismiss them, but I think they should give them a bit of help, and let them try their deck.
It wasn't until I entered my first event (a PTQ in like '07) that I realized the gulf between what I thought was good, and what a meta consisted of. My U/B shadows deck didn't stand a chance. Let them experience the meta with what they think is good so they can see if they actually want to play competitively or are actually just looking for fun games.

Played a game of #MagicTheGathering #Commander with my Obuun deck, against The Wise Mothman, Maelstrom Wanderer, and #Saheeli, Radiant Creator.
After the Saheeli player got knocked out by radiation, after a few energy-fueled board-bounces, I managed to get a Scute Swarm on the board alongside a landfall-doubler and extra land plays, so after a few turns I attacked with 2915 Scute Swarms.
They got Aetherized.
A turn later, I had 629,640 Scute Swarms. Bounced.
Then my forest creatures won.
My Inalla #commander deck tonight got to play Bazaar Trader, discard 6 lands into Puppeteer Clique for World Shaper and an edict creature. That was some good ramp.
Will they take the hobbits to Isengard? I think that's how the books go, it's #LOTR #Archenemy !
