The newspaper reports that of the 16 people arrested with criminal histories—representing just 2.6% of the total listed in the filing— “five involved domestic battery, two were related to drunken driving, and one allegedly had an unidentified criminal history in another country.” None had criminal backgrounds that included worst-of-the-worst offenses like rape or murder.
Earlier this week, #US District Judge Jeffrey Cummings ordered the government to provide more information about the more than 600 people being held in detention and suggested he would order their release if compelling public-safety reasons were not presented.

This week began with the release of a report titled “Deciding to Win,” claiming to light the way “toward a common sense renewal of the #DemocraticParty.”
But the first mention of #healthcare is so far from reality that the authors might have more accurately titled their report “Deciding to Lie.” The report declares that Medicare for All is in the category of “unpopular economic policies.” The claim is false. But it’s in sync with the corporate sensibilities and wishful thinking of party operatives like James Carville, whose praise of the document appears on its first page.

Protesters then marched to the Brooklyn Bridge, where some sat down, locked their arms together, and sang while blocking traffic to the span. #NYPD officers subsequently arrested at least 56 people, according to the New York Post.
Many of the arrested protesters chanted, “Let #Gaza Live!” as their hands were zip-tied and they were hauled off to an awaiting NYPD bus.
Asked why she was arrested, one keffiyeh-clad woman said, “Because I’m using this sacred holiday of #YomKippur, as a #Jewish person whose ancestors perished during the Holocaust, to protest against the genocide of the #Palestinian people in my name.”

These include:
- “Anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity;
- Support for the overthrow of the #US Government;
- Extremism on migration, race, and gender; and
- Hostility towards those who hold traditional #American views on family, religion, and morality.”
What’s more, the memorandum entrusts enforcement to the #FBI’s over 4,000-strong Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF), which removes the legal challenges to directing the National Guard or other military forces to quash domestic dissent.

#AssataShakur, a #Black #revolutionary who inspired generations of activists to struggle for a better world, passed away on Thursday in Havana, Cuba, where she had lived in exile from the #US for over four decades.
#Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced her death on Friday, saying it was caused by a combination of “health conditions and advanced age.” She was reportedly 78 years old.
