The artwork celebrates resilience through diverse imagery: Indigenous figures adorned with traditional headdresses intertwine with colorful vines and flowers, creating a living tapestry of cultural preservation. A vintage American flag fragment emerges from layered textures, while small human figures stand as testament to collective strength.

The striking emerald frog sitting prominently on the right side of the mural carries special significance - its bright green skin and freshly painted appearance directly references the viral Portland ICE protester Seth Todd, who sparked a nationwide movement by donning an inflatable frog costume to peacefully resist immigration enforcement policies. This 24-year-old activist chose the frog specifically to counter narratives of violent extremism, stating "the best way to demonstrate that is by wearing a frog costume" as he danced outside Portland's ICE facility. The mural's frog serves as a symbol of creative, nonviolent resistance - embodying the spirit of protesters who used whimsical animal costumes to challenge the Trump administration's characterization of Portland as a "war zone".

Join us at this workshop to learn more about sea level rise in the Gorge and Portage Inlet and to share your knowledge, experience and values to help guide #SeaLevelRise planning for the area. A presentation will be followed by a #facilitated discussion that will help inform adaptation options to address sea level rise.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

Introduction to the Gorge Coastal #Flood Adaptation Strategy.
Sea level rise projections, including areas, #ecosystems and #infrastructure at risk in the Gorge
Possible #coastal adaptation approaches
Examples of coastal resilience initiatives along the Gorge
Activities to explore values informing future coastal planning

The feedback we receive will inform the Gorge Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy, a collaboration between by the Township of #Esquimalt , the District of #Saanich , the City of #VictoriaBC and the Town of #ViewRoyal with support from the #CapitalRegionalDistrict.

Refreshments will be provided.

Registration is required. If we reach capacity for the event, we will take a waitlist and may add an additional event.

Accessibility and Parking:

#FreeChildcare will be provided on-site for the duration of the event.

#FreeParking is available at the Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion, including 10 #AccessibleParking stalls and four electric vehicle chargers.

Accessible by bus routes 14 and 26 and a short walk from routes 8, 9 and 11.

A bike rack is available.

Memory game with custom-built sound modules | various electronics, recordings of residents’ laughter | 100 x 100 cm

Created during his residency in the Fliegendes Künstler:innenzimmer (FlieKü) of the Crespo Foundation, Olsen’s work explores a simple yet profound question: What does a neighbourhood sound like if you only hear its laughter?

Armed with a microphone and ice cream vouchers, Olsen ventured through the parks, streets, courtyards, and local institutions of Preungesheim. Along the way, he collected the laughter of children, couples on park benches, a laughter yoga group, and even a former BMX champion from the 1980s.

The result is an interactive memory game: each module flip triggers a unique laughter sound bringing the community to life in playful, unexpected ways.

Special thanks to the Crespo Foundation, the FlieKü team, and everyone who laughed, contributed, or simply visited the exhibition.
