#OTD in #ComputingHistory (1623): Blaise Pascal, the renowned mathematician and physicist, was born. He made foundational contributions to geometry, probability, physics, and early computing. He is often credited with inventing one of the first mechanical calculators, the Pascaline.

El 16 de junio de 1988, Intel lanzó al mercado el procesador i386SX de 32 bits, de bajo costo, pero el estándar eran 16 bits lo que complicaba el rendimiento. Luego fue rebautizado como 386DX

I have just spent a happy half hour reading Jeffrey Friedl's blog post (and it's associated comment thread) on the history of the "Now they have two problems" quote often attributed to Jamie Zawinski: regex.info/blog/2006-09-15/247

On May 22, 1980, the original Pac-Man made its debut and quickly became more than just an arcade hit—it marked a milestone in computing. It demonstrated early AI with ghosts that followed distinct behavioral algorithms, pushed real-time processing on limited hardware, and showcased intuitive, user-friendly design. It also was an example of early cross-platform development. A lot of fun, and a leap forward in computing!

My happiness that Kernighan’s memoir was delivered was slightly diminished seeing it was (I assume) a print-on-demand by Kindle Direct Publishing…

Is this an Amazon thingy? (I ordered it through a somewhat local bookstore)

Hope to enjoy the book regardless…

A book titled "UNIX: A History and a Memoir" by Brian Kernighan, featuring a cover with colorful blocks spelling "UNIX" and a background of text and designs. The book is resting on brown paper. The title page of the book woth title and author repeated, but also including the text “Kindle Direct Publishing”

Did you know: Engineer Ronald H. Nicholson Jr. was part of both the Macintosh and Amiga teams, and has his signature molded into the cases of the Amiga 1000 and the early Macintosh computers.

It's rare I'll finish an unabridged audiobook and really wasn't expecting to enjoy this, (not a fan of #BillGates) but found it informative and insightful and stuck with it to the end. #Neurodiversity #STEM #ComputingHistory

I remember when turning off your computer meant physically cutting power using a big mechanical switch.

Then came and the "shutdown sequence", along with all the chaos it often caused. Soft power switching, hibernate, and Fast Boot came after.

Today, there are people who've never heard of the concept of switching off a computer or phone.

Finally having energy post surgery to do some things again 😊

First up... HD-64 for the Commodore 64. HDMI video and Audio, can configure via a program you run on your #Commodore and firmware updatable via a USB-C port.

Inside of a modern Commodore 64 system, that where the RF Modulator is, there's a HD-64 module with a ribbon cable going towards the VIC-2 chip, and a couple of pins soldered for power and ground to the expansion port.A very sharp HDMI output of a diag tool for the Commodore 64. Ignore the errors as false reporting as FPGA based chips and not all adapters were plugged in.
