He wrote several popular and timeless children's songs (we all know them, yet I had no idea they were all penned by him!) and the poem that became our national anthem.
What stuck with me, though, was that at 51, he married his 18-year old niece. 👀 She died on their 11th wedding anniversary, giving birth to their fourth child. This flower is for you, Ida! 🥀

Warum stehen die Bände der Deutschen Geschichte in Vitrine 184 auf dem Kopf? Das hat doch etwas zu bedeuten?!

Bei dem durchwachsenen Wetter haben wir heute das Schloss Corvey besucht. Diese Weltkulturerbe-Stätte bietet einen tollen Garten, das einzige erhaltene Bauwerk der Karolinger, eine phantastische Bibliothek und das Grab von Hoffmann von Fallersleben.
