A board-walk across part of 'Hannah's Meadow', in Baldersdale, Co Durham. Managed by the Durham Wildlife Trust, this upland hay meadow and grazing pasture is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The pasture was once owned and farmed by Hannah Hauxwell, who lived alone at Low Birk Hatt Farm without the luxury of electricity and running water. After featuring in a TV documentary about her harsh living conditions during the winter months, Hannah became something of a celebrity.

A magpie on a branch
Winter is all around. And everything has turned so blue. It's been like this for a long time. A magpie in a snowy forest. And instead of a forest, there are only branches. There are no leaves. The forest looks so strange. In summer, it's completely different. But you can see everything into the distance.

Missed a few days of bee facts as I was distracted trying to help out #foxes (it’s okay…the #bees wanted me to!)
Did you know that it’s still legal for members of our inbred community and your common-or-garden psychopaths to terrorise, torture and kill foxes, decimate the #countryside and panic/upset any other creature that gets in their way as they get their jollies?
And the majority of our public representatives are too scared to stop them.
In #ireland . In 2025.
Yes it is.
Time it wasn’t.
