Yesterday I’d done the heavy lifting of uphauling the #crux #rpi5 3.8 repo and right now I’m testing an update to kernel 6.12.28 which should be available soon as well. https://github.com/crux-arm/crux-ports-raspberrypi5-arm64 (check the 3.8 branch)

Internally debating whether I should pick up a #ThinkPad T43 and using it as my main #NetBSD machine. Currently I have an X260 running #Slackware and an X1 Carbon 6th gen running #CRUX and #Debian but I don't have a machine I can dedicate solely to NetBSD. I also got my Raspberry Pi 4 running #SlackwareARM. I've always just had to run NetBSD in a VM, but I don't wish to anymore. Is it a worthwhile endeavor?

If things break in a source based distro, the entire thing falls apart. Users are expected to get their hands dirty, but there’s dirty and there’s fixing every issue that should have been caught by now along the way. With todays hardware speeds, the entire distro should have been checked for issues before saying it’s good for release. Yet, here we are. 🙃 #crux

I’ve spent most of my time tonight attempting to build LXQT from a fresh install of #crux but they have many, many issues before even getting to my ports to fix. The bad thing about crux isn’t software availability, it’s quality control. If any of the devs used the software, they’d know the ports are broken, but issues generally go ignored unless I propose fixes, it’s not a good user experience. Luckily for me, that’s not why I like it, but it makes contributing hard.

My trusty ol Intel MacBook has been rebuilding llvm/clang for days because of a libxml2 update which borked the #crux 3.8 dev environment, and then I ran out of ssd space saving the built package. 🫠 So after clearing space, I started over. Luckily, I have plenty of toys, but sometimes source based distros make me love #slackware a little more each failure.
