There were several of these creepy-crawlies in our garden this year. I think it's a cricket, only mildly creepy on my disgusto-scale. Much less than a mole cricket, which I wouldn't inflict upon you here even with a content warning 🤢 (don't look it up)

A close-up photo of a small insect, which I assume is a ground cricket. Its whole body is completely black. It has two longish antennae on its head and two cerci - a word I learned today - coming out of its butt (it's like antennae, but shorter). It doesn't have any wings. A couple of spruce needles, looking really huge (the insect is as long as one of the needles), are around it, giving an idea of the scale.

Another creepy-crawly for - brought inside on the rim of a bucket I used for weeds. Decided not to add content warning this time, hopefully it won't scare anyone too much. Honestly, I can't decide if it's creepy or beautiful 🤔

(If you know what exactly it is, let me know).

A close-up photo of a caterpillar sitting on the rim of a white bucket. It is black, with red spots out of which thin bristles come out. More thick bristles can be seen on top of it. There are four of them and they are short and yellow. On what I assume is its head, it has two longer black-and-white bristles. On its butt, there is another thicker set of long bristles, which looks like a tail.

I'm afraid it's now my hobby to photograph all of the #CreepyCrawlies and weird stuff that #LadyDuchess and I come across in our evening walks in the woods.

Honestly, I've come to find it all quite beautiful.

I've always loved #Hiking, but I'm only now discovering part of a world that I've long been part of, but barely understand.

If you come across a damp hole in a tree, these might be the residents. In this case, a gorgeous slug and some millipedes (centipedes?).These red spiders stick to a particular section of our favorite woods. They're very nervous, though. Spook them, and they'll jump to the ground or hide behind a leaf! That makes them a bit challenging to photograph sometimes.Looking up into the hollow of an old tree, there are confusing, winding webs. Don't get caught! In this hole there is a mixture of rain water, tree resins, and who knows what else, creating a burnt-orange sludge (I wouldn't drink that if I were you). An out-of-focus slug hangs out nearby.

Just came across this article in @guardian and it names the province I reside in as among the tick-iest places in the world! Time to start checking the dog again....

The rain comes pittering down,
Each droplet hitting the ground.
The cat seeks shelter amidst the logs,
To escape the raindrops, and the dogs.

Sat atop the timber, so neatly sawn,
She seeks small things, that creep and crawl,
She's wise to the tricks, of all the bugs,
But is lazily bored by the slugs.
