Rising Sun, by Michael #Crichton (1992), makes me feel conflicted.
It's a very well written thriller, keeps you at the edge of your seat, and you get to learn a lot (as usual with Crichton). A bit uncomfortable in its attitude towards the Japanese, conflating outdated views about the culture with the anxiety people had at the time that Japan could take over America as a superpotency. Still recommended, though. Middle point between noir and cyberpunk, I feel.

Since my eyes are hurting from this infection, I listened to the end of the audio book I started during our recent flights: Eruption by Michael Crichton & James Patterson.

Mostly good, although the ending seemed a little rushed. Would still recommend it, if you like either author’s other works.

@shaunduke This is such a good question - it's a great decade, and my runners up are a wide array of very enjoyable books (how many times have I read The Andromeda Strain just for the fun of it?), but there's really no contest. Every time I think I've overrated Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness, I reread it and am blown away again. Such a powerful story. #sciencefiction #Crichton #LeGuin
